SEKO Logistics is Hiring a Director, eCommerce Customs Brokerage and Account Management Near Schaumburg, IL

Job DescriptionKEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Sets department priorities on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and plans the work of department and the assignments to meet customer deadlines. Assigns work to supervisory staff.
  • Manage all daily import transactions and applicable administrative U.S. or foreign government programs.
  • Monitor all air and/or ocean import shipments through U.S. Customs clearance to ensure timely clearance and delivery of imported cargo
  • Oversee the preparation of the U.S. Customs import documentation.
  • Monitor any independent company designated U.S. Customs brokers to ensure that proper declarations are made to U.S. Customs regarding the classification and importation of cargo
  • Ensure harmonized tariff research, binding rulings, protests, duty rates, and valuation on import shipments into the United States are processed timely and efficiently in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Interface with U.S. Customs and other Federal agencies at the local and national level to ensure compliance with all pertinent laws and regulations as directed by the Imports Director.
  • Manages quality and efficiency of customer transactions, constantly improving processes to maintain or improve service level and exceed customer expectations.
  • Provide consultation to customers on the importation of goods thru U.S. Customs, governmental regulations/inspections, changes in import regulations, transportation, bonding/insurance requirements and general industry expertise.
  • Review and ensure import performance and transit time analysis reports are distributed appropriately.
  • Ensure data critical to supply chain initiatives is maintained and updated.
  • Provide guidance and training to import staff on customer service, processing and managing the flow of essential import documentation including Letters of Credit, commercial invoices and associated certificates, Country of Origin requirements, and communication and notifications to clients and vendors.
  • Sets and maintains high operational standards for compliance actions and monitors effectiveness of processes, implementing improvements
  • Oversee the maintenance of U.S. Customs Harmonized Classification System.
  • Establish recordkeeping standards and oversee file maintenance in accordance with U.S. Customs regulations and company policies.
  • Work corroboratively with senior management and IT in coordinating systems implementation and designing systems for EDI transmission of data for Customs
  • Ensure that all personnel are providing a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Leads the operational team through daily activities to meet business objectives
  • Provides leadership for supervisory personnel, assisting with problem solving as needed to ensure customer retention and satisfaction with services provided
  • Utilizes superior communication skills to motivate staff and develop effective working relationships with peers, executives, and clients
  • Oversees and manages the professional development and productivity of staff members to ensure proper goals, training, professional development, and project management requirements are met
  • Personally coach, train and mentor direct reports and provide career development opportunities through training, and quality management activities
  • Conduct annual performance evaluation reviews for all staff within the department
  • Keeps abreast of emerging technology changes and innovations through formal or informal study, reading business and professional publications, networking, and participation in professional organizations
  • Maintains profitability of department
  • Manages staff budget and expenses, maintaining efficiency and implementing cost controls
  • Provides required financial reporting and advises senior management of trending that will affect revenues or profit
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace. Comply with instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures. Co-operate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
  • Build network relationships at the required levels within the customers' organization
  • Identify areas of customers' business that require delegation to implants, operations, and accounts and/or escalation to management or account sponsors for resolution or development
  • Own and run operational check-in calls with customers
  • Deliver Business Reviews on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace. Comply with instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures. Co-operate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Knowledgeable in U.S. Customs and International trade with a basic understanding of customs valuation, classification, compliance/audit, and trade programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of all U.S. Customs Compliance Rules and Regulations,
  • Knowledge of NAFTA, Free Trade Agreements, CTPAT, additional tariff requirements, OGA’S, ACH and all other related trade legislation, rules, and regulations.
  • Experience managing compliance processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of the company’s products, services, and operations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, supervising, managing and developing managers, staff and high-performance teams.
  • Ability to manage the financial aspects of a department (purchasing, budget preparations and review, financial reporting, and monitoring expenses).
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple projects and set priorities.
  • Ability to make customers and their needs a primary focus of one's actions, developing and sustaining productive relationships.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees, and customers.
  • Ability to maintain and grow positive relationships with staff, customers, sales, finance, and foreign personnel
MinimumEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, Transportation or a related field.
  • Minimum ten years related experience in customs-house brokerage and freight forwarding required.
  • Minimum of five years supervisory experience required
Preferred
  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience and completion of the LDP or TOP Program required.
Specialist Certifications
  • US Customs Brokers License
