Selah's Pig Sanctuary is Hiring a Caretaker Near Kea‘au, HI

Position: Long-term Pig Caretaker Location: Keaau, Hawaii,

Employment Type: Part-Time (10-15 hrs/wk), Live-In, in-person position.

Organization: Selah’s Pig Sanctuary; a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Animal Sanctuary

Compensation: 100% Volunteer Free Cabin Living Space.

About Us:

Selah’s Pig Sanctuary is a 100% volunteer run nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe and loving home for rescued pigs. We are located on Keaau, on the big island of Hawaii, and our mission is to care for pigs who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected. Our sanctuary is a place of compassion, healing, and advocacy for animal welfare.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Pig Caretaker. This live-in position is responsible for the daily care of our pigs, ensuring their well-being, health, and happiness. The Pig Caretaker will be responsible for feeding the pigs morning and night, changing their water, and providing them with affection and attention.

Key Responsibilities:

Feeding: Provide morning and evening feedings to all pigs (5) according to their dietary needs and schedules.

Water Management: Ensure that all pigs have access to fresh and clean water at all times. Regularly change and refill water containers.

Affection and Socialization: Spend time with the pigs, offering them affection, socialization, and enrichment activities to promote their emotional well-being.

Health Monitoring: Observe and monitor the health and behavior of each pig, reporting any concerns or health issues to the sanctuary management promptly.

Sanctuary Maintenance: Assist with maintaining clean and safe living environments for the pigs, including cleaning enclosures and ensuring a hygienic environment.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of each pig's health, and behavior.

Collaboration: Work closely with other sanctuary staff and volunteers to ensure the highest standards of care and welfare for the pigs.

Qualifications:

Passion for animal welfare and a compassionate attitude towards pigs and other animals.

Previous experience in animal care, particularly with pigs, is preferred but not required.

Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving feed and water containers.

Strong observational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Willingness to live on the sanctuary property and be available for the pigs' needs.

Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional nights as needed.
