The Role:
Traveling throughout the United States, the Application Engineer is responsible for meeting and exceeding customer needs in an industrial environment by using brand new instruments, sophisticated computer systems and knowledge of programming and engineering. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Leading turnkey projects, demonstrations, and other customer related projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Conducting pre-sale activities and reviews, including customer visits, evaluation of opportunities, machine assessment and recommendations, part processing recommendations and development of turnkey proposals.
  • Making accurate cost estimates, writing engineering reports, and interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Developing/implementing custom demonstrations and training customers in the safe set up and operation of various CNC machining tools.
  • Possessing and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of machine tool industry and product lines represented by the company.
  • Reviewing part processing and generating cycle time estimates on customer opportunities.
  • Developing and implementing custom demonstrations at Morris locations and vendor facilities.
  • Exhibiting ownership of customer-related problems and coordination with sales and service departments when vital for resolution of problems to ensure customer service satisfaction.
  • Developing and maintaining partner relationships with machine tool vendors and other third-party vendors.
  • Conducting training of customers in the safe set-up and operation of various CNC machining tools.
  • Adhering to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics.
  • Participating in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in the field; implements as appropriate.
  • Having the ability to travel.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to travel up to 75-100% of the work week; overnight travel required. Some international travel for training at machine builder's facilities.
  • High School Diploma/GED from a technical school.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience working with and programing CNC controls and/or applicable experience.
  • Control experience with Heidenhain, Siemens, Fanuc preferred, but not required.
  • Problem solving skills and attention to detail with technical capability.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic drawings / schematics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic skills in software associated with Microsoft other related business programs.
  • A valid driver's license.

  • Must be able to perform bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 50 lbs.
  • Is frequently required to use hands to finger and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to keep their composure with the public and co-workers in everyday, stressful situations.
