Description
Semmes Murphey Clinic is committed to implementing a team-based approach to provide excellence in patient care. The Physical Therapy Receptionist/Technician will work with other members of Semmes Murphey Clinic to provide patient services and is expected to participate in the appropriate team activities with the objective of providing a high standard of patient and clinical service. The Physical Therapy Receptionist/Technician is responsible for greeting and processing patients for admission into the Physical Therapy center as well as maintaining treatment areas and equipment and assisting the Physical Therapists. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Schedule patient appointments
· Answer the phone and manage calls to patients
· Verify and pre-certify insurance benefits: Build insurance cases
· Coordinate meetings and schedules
· Prepare, maintain and clean the treatment areas to ensure appropriate patient care
· Clean and maintain equipment with safety check list to ensure patient safety
· Keep up with daily supplies (braces, etc.)
· Transport patients to and from treatment areas and provide guarding for safety during exercise as needed
· Assist patient in dressing and undressing, and putting on and removing supportive devices such as braces, splints and slings before and after treatments
· Obtain forms such as Oswestry or Neck Disability Index when needed

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIALS
Minimum Requirements:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· One (1) year of related experience and/or training
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
· General knowledge of the healthcare industry and Physical Therapy
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), internet software and electronic medical records (EMR)
· Effective communication, both oral and written
· Ability to comprehend and interpret verbal orders and direction
· Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
· Establishes effective working relationships among team members
· Ability to provide excellent customer service during difficult or emotional situations
· Ability to manage workflow and prioritize demands
· High level of confidentiality and discretion
Physical Requirements:
These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the described essential functions of the job. While performing these responsibilities the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to sit and stand for long periods of time and have the capability for occasional overhead and low reaching. Physical strength for equipment needs and patient care activities require the employee to be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities is required with the ability to move quickly in response to patient needs.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The work area is fully equipped, well lit and ventilated. Both nonhazardous and hazardous equipment is present. This position involves Category 1 occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and material. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
