Position summary

We are seeking a skilled and creative Prep Cook to join our senior living community's culinary team. This role is a unique blend of pastry expertise and preparation skills, responsible for creating delicious baked goods and assisting with food preparation. The Pastry/Prep Cook will contribute to the culinary experience of our residents by producing high-quality pastries and supporting the overall kitchen operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pastry Production: Prepare a variety of baked goods, desserts, and pastries following established recipes and presentation guidelines. This includes cakes, cookies, tarts, and other delectable treats.
  • Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of ingredients for main dishes, salads, soups, and other menu items. This may involve chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and assembling components for meal service.
  • Menu Innovation: Collaborate with the culinary team to develop new pastry offerings and seasonal dessert menus that align with residents' preferences and dietary needs.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all pastries and desserts are consistently produced to the highest quality standards in taste, appearance, and texture.
  • Kitchen Organization: Maintain a clean and organized pastry station, including the proper storage of ingredients, tools, and equipment.
  • Food Safety: Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling and storage of ingredients, to maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in managing inventory for pastry ingredients, notifying supervisors when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Presentation: Decorate and present pastries in an appealing manner, paying attention to detail and visual aesthetics.
  • Timeliness: Coordinate with the kitchen team to ensure that pastries are prepared and ready for meal service according to schedule.
  • Training: Offer guidance and training to other kitchen staff members, especially in areas related to pastry production and presentation.
