SENTA ENT and Allergy Physicians is Hiring a Medical Assistant (Audiology Support) Near Albany, IN

Brief DescriptionAdvanced ENT and Allergy, a long standing member of the Louisville and Southern Indiana healthcare community, is seeking to add an experienced and knowledgeable Medical Assistant to their Team. As a growing mid-size practice, our company is large enough to have solid processes in place, but still maintain the small-office feel. A recent partnership with Southern Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy (SENTA) physicians, a leading community of physician-led and patient focused practices, has brought additional growth opportunities to our team. Advanced ENT and Allergy is a busy practice providing a full spectrum of ENT care as well as a full complement of head and neck surgery. Our 12 Otolaryngologists utilize the latest technology, research and patient care techniques to create a top tier patient experience.
Position is based in New Albany, IN but ability and willingness to travel to other locations will be required.
Our Medical Assistants are an integral part of our patient care. Responsibilities include both clinical and administrative areas such as assisting physicians with patient care and clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. They provide information to our patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from our clinical services. The Medical Assistant will provide specialized support to our clinical teams and Audiologists by administering hearing tests and providing support to patients with hearing-related concerns. Working closely with audiologists and other healthcare professionals, this role plays a vital role in diagnosing hearing impairments and ensuring patients receive appropriate care and treatment. With demonstrated success, there will be the potential for company-paid certification.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interacts professionally with patients.
  • Accompanies and settles patients in the exam room in advance of the physician’s visit.
  • Takes vitals such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and height and enters them into the EMR.
  • Obtains current medication list from new and return patients and verify allergies during every request for medication and every office visit. Perform medication reconciliation.
  • Acquires patient history and the chief complaint and document in complete sentences with the proper grammar why the patient is being seen for a visit.
  • Performs necessary office tests, such as rapid strep tests and smell tests as requested by the physician and document results in the patient’s record.
  • Updates patient’s surgeries in the Surgical History once the patient has had surgery by our physicians. Also, updates surgeries performed by other physicians when they have return visits.
  • Draws blood specimens from patients and prepares and labels the specimens for the laboratory ensuring appropriate lab is used based on patient’s insurance plan.
  • Obtains patient signed informed consent via paper and administer intramuscular injections such as steroids and vitamin B12 and documents the injection completion in EHR.
  • Updates the provider which patient should be seen next to minimize wait time when multiple rooms are filled up. Patient timeliness and appointment time must be taken into consideration to avoid upset patient(s).
  • Cleans and prepares room in a timely manner for the next patient.
  • Retrieves, directs and responds accordingly to the messages from the nursing line.
  • Calls-in prescriptions as directed by the physicians.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable government laws, rules, regulations, AAOA and Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains safe environment for patient, co-workers and self, per policies and procedures.
  • Administer hearing tests, including pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, and otoacoustic emissions (OAE) tests, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Prepare patients for hearing tests, explain procedures, and address any questions or concerns to ensure their comfort and understanding.
  • Calibrate and maintain audiometric equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Assist audiologists and other healthcare providers in conducting diagnostic evaluations and interpreting test results.
  • Document test results, patient information, and other relevant data accurately and timely in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Provide support to patients with hearing aids, including fitting, maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustments as needed.
  • Educate patients and their families on hearing conservation, hearing aid use, and communication strategies to improve quality of life.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care and referrals to specialists as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Stay current with advancements in audiometric testing techniques, hearing aid technology, and healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned
