As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team that builds the foundation for a new generation of digital warfighting tools, leading the development of platforms that enable analytic workflows for DoD customers; such as the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and PEO Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS). This position is open to either work in a Serco office in Northern Virginia or San Diego, hybrid, or fully remote.

This role is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain/transfer your Secret clearance.

Serco’s Advanced Technologies Engineering Group is a rapidly growing team that develops a wide range of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities addressing our customer’s challenges in the areas of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, Data Fusion, Automation, and Operational AI for Command and Control. These technologies have the ability to revolutionize a wide variety of domains but bring unique challenges associated with managing, fusing vast amounts of data to provide end-users with actionable information. 

You will be part of a team that works closely with our DoD customer and other teams to deliver innovative systems. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the research & development of analytics that provide such capabilities as:

• Systematic integration of information from disparate sources to assemble a mission-focused database.
• Synchronization of information between distant and intermittently connected remote sites.
• Data access services that support advanced decision aids and user interfaces.

 In this role, you will: 

• Collaborate with co-workers, leadership, and clients to understand client problems, identify solutions, and demonstrate software solutions.
• Interface with customers to define requirements and communicate them to the development team.
• Design, create, and modify software written in primarily Java.
• Participate in internal and client-defined agile software development processes.
• Ensure software complies with customer requirements.
• Write technical software documentation and explain software design and implementation to co-workers, clients, and partners.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

• U.S Citizenship
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline from an accredited university
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience 
• Strong leadership skills to effectively lead project development
• The ability to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance
• Expert knowledge of Java
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• The ability to travel up to 10%

Additional desired experience and skills:

• Experience contributing to production-grade software
• Experience with DoD information systems, use cases, and development practices
• Experience writing software that interacts with databases and a working knowledge of database internals, preferably Postgres
• Experience with Java EE application development and related standards (JAX-RS, CDI, Config, Servlet) or similar frameworks
• Working knowledge of web standards, common protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS), and common data format standards (e.g., XML, JSON)
• Experience writing software that integrate with authentication, authorization, and single-sign-on technologies
• Experience with software containerization and container orchestration technologies
• Working knowledge of secure software development practices and common weaknesses
• Working knowledge of Git and bug tracking tools such as JIRA
• Advanced knowledge of Linux including development and hardening of system services

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $119,357.43 to $206,847.69; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
