Serve the People Community Health Center is Hiring a Patient Support Associate/ Receptionist Near Santa Ana, CA

Description

The Patient Support Associate (PSA) is responsible for providing administrative and clerical duties for the Health Center. The workflow includes responding to requests for information and assistance from patients and providers, scheduling appointments, verifying information, collecting and recording data, maintaining and updating records and files, and facilitating patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Answers telephones and greeting patients and visitors
  • Schedules appointments for new, unregistered and previously registered patients
  • Ensures patients have patient information sheet completed; Ensuring appropriate forms are signed and dated
  • Verifies patient demographics and insurance/eligibility
  • Provides support for accurate billing
  • Collects pertinent patient information within Electronic Health Record, eClinical Works
  • Disseminates and promotes clinic information, as needed
  • Makes patient appointment reminder calls
  • Schedules follow-up appointment times and reschedule missed appointments
  • Ensures patient’s needs are met regarding directions, parking, wheelchairs, accommodations, language assistance and other services needed
  • Handles patient funds as required
  • Takes and notes detailed messages
  • Follows established procedures in the filing and retrieving of medical records, as necessary

Skills:

  • Proven work experience as a Receptionist, Front Office Representative or similar role
  • Hands-on experience with office equipment (e.g. fax machines and printers)
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • People friendly, customer service attitude
  • Team player with a pleasant attitude towards the practice of medicine
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and professional ethics
  • Moderate Word processing and spreadsheet software experience
  • Ability to speak effectively on the telephone to patients, physicians and vendors
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in standardized situations

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma required or equivalent
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Bilingual: English and Spanish required

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with common health care programs, preferred
  • Experience working with patient registration procedures, preferred
  • Basic knowledge of medical or dental terminology, preferred
  • Experience with EMR/EHR systems, preferred
  • Certificate from a medical administrative assistant school or college degree, preferred
  • Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office, preferred
