SESC is looking for an RN to join our Knoxville team!

POSITION SUMMARY
The RN-Preoperative and PACU position assists in the daily clinical operations of the PACU in accordance with established Federal, State, and accreditation standards and center policies and procedures. Participates in direct patient care including maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:
Patient care in the preoperative and postoperative areas
Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Coordinates planned nursing care with other health care team members
Prepares preoperative and postoperative areas for patient care
Prepares patients for surgical procedures, according to physician orders
Monitors patients’ vital signs, breathing, alertness, awareness following surgical procedure
Preoperative and postoperative assessment and patient education
Maintains a high standard of safety for patients in preoperative and postoperative areas
  • performing interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level;
  • managing the patient’s specimens in the appropriate manner;
  • communicating the patient’s current status to the appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care;
  • administering medications safely and correctly;
  • performing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection;
  • protecting the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy;
  • providing culturally and age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice
Transfers care as appropriate
Assists with preoperative and postoperative phone calls to patients
Delegates tasks as appropriate according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions
Documents nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly
Participates in quality review and performance improvement projects
Participates in the performance appraisal process
Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members
Maintains required competencies
Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information.
Completes all required compliance training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Working knowledge and hospital or ambulatory surgery center, experience in PACU, including direct patient care.
Knowledge of patient monitoring equipment.
Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately.
Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized and cost-effective manner.
Good computer skills including use of standard office programs
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Ability to speak, read, and write in English
Ability to work well under pressure and accept additional assignments willingly
Ability to work flexible hours as needed to accommodate workload
Ability to concentrate, think, and learn
Ability to hear, see, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, push and pull

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must possess updated licensure for state in which facility is located; Two (2) years of clinical experience preferred, with emphasis in PACU, surgery, or ER; IV skills required. BLS required. ACLS required. All employees must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
