POSITION TITLE: GIS Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Estimating & Project Management
LOCATION: Niagara Falls, New York or Deepwater, New Jersey
SALARY RANGE: $25 to $40 per hour

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Nationally recognized environmental remediation contractor (#3 in ENR in 2022) looking for an entry level Graphic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to provide GIS services and system management in support of large-scale environmental remediation at Superfund / FUSRAP projects. Our clients on these Projects are the US Army Corps of Engineers and US EPA agencies. The jobsites are throughout the US, with an immediate opening at a site in Deepwater, New Jersey.
Sevenson has been in business for over 100 years, entering the environmental remediation market sector in 1979 performing the remediation at the 1st Superfund site ever – Love Canal. We have a huge program and great backlog of work.
This is not a Contract position. This is a regular position. We hire our employees with the intent for them to retire at Sevenson. There is upward mobility, future growth, and advancement opportunities from this position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, monitoring, and maintenance of the CAD/GIS software and hardware systems to expedite and enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting/presentation. They will also provide on-going collaborative support, training, and technical assistance to staff on the use of the applicable CAD/GIS tools as well as collaborate with the Engineering Manager on existing and new initiatives, planning efforts, and/or decision-making that impacts both data and technology services.
The daily work will include:
  • Work under the GIS Program Manager to assist in data collection, processing, and visualization for GIS related products
  • Work with project technical personnel on design, setup, and operations of geo-referenced field data collection using commercial GIS equipment and software to include Trimble GPS and ESRI GIS systems
  • Process GPS-based field data using ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS software.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, and SOPs for Data/GIS management
  • Collaborate with technical staff to ensure that accurate data is readily available for their use/analysis to support and enhance their reporting/presentation requirements
  • Develop and conduct technical staff training in available Data/GIS tools.
  • Recommend and implement operating methods to improve collection, processing, distribution, analysis, reporting, and presentation procedures
  • QA/QC of data and GIS outputs
  • Develop and maintain CAD/GIS budget for existing and new software/hardware
  • Must be able to work in field conditions and travel to job sites as required. Job sites may require background check and drug screen prior to site access.
  • SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Science, Geology, Geography, Earth Sciences, Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • GIS Software: 1-3 years of experience
  • Field GIS Hardware Setup, Operations, and Maintenance: 1-3 Years
  • Knowledge of Data Management and GIS related software such QGIS, ESRI ArcGIS, ERPIMS, Surfer, Visual Sampling Plan, ProUCL, and MS Excel
  • Knowledge of GPS field equipment procurement, setup, operations, and maintenance to include Trimble GPS products
  • Demonstrated high standards for data presentation, visual communication, and attention to detail are essential
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret directions and communicate/collaborate effectively with staff and clients
  • The candidate must be an independent, self-directed, problem solver capable of working under tight deadlines and responding to the immediate needs of clients
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work productively in a collaborative environment
  • High initiative with an ability to work with minimal supervision (via GIS Program Manager)
  • Strong interpersonal skills (e.g. persuasion, negotiation, listening, cooperation, tact, diplomacy, problem solving, internal consulting, etc.)
  • Experience with UAV (Drones) for site data collection of added benefit
