Role and Responsibilities: The Data Governance Specialist will be responsible for supporting SFBLI’s Data Governance Policy through proper understanding and documentation of controls. With the use of Data Management software, the Data Governance Specialist, will implement the agreed upon governance policy, assist Data Stewards with the data catalog, serve as the first line of defense for access and report request as well as assisting the Data Governance Organization with quality and change management. Your responsibilities will include:

• With strong guidance from the Data Governance manager or director, understand and design data governance strategies across SFB.
• Be a trainee alongside the senior Data Governance Specialist/manager/director to learn how to work with the Data Governance Organization in documenting and facilitating policies and procedures for topics such as data exchanges, reports, retention, escalation timelines, quality/accuracy, security, communication and change management.
• Develop the knowledge and understanding to function as an expert for data governance questions across the organization.
• Ability to expand knowledge of what a Data Dictionary is and should be on a data governance level as well as a reporting catalog with intent to oversee.
• Ensure Data Owners and Data Stewards are aware of data quality issues as the arise as well as processes and procedures to resolve issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree required with emphasis on computer science, information systems or mathematics preferred
• Basic Knowledge of the insurance industry environment, regulations, and practices preferred
• Basic Knowledge of the Farm Bureau organization and SFBLI products and programs preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
• Familiarity with databases and technical documentation
• Strong attention to detail with drive for results
• Some business knowledge to understand where governance is applicable and creates the highest value
• Basic technical Knowledge to understand various systems and tools, limitations and opportunities
• Proven ability to work well with a team or in a project setting.
• The ability to function effectively in the workplace as exhibited through one's integrity, courage to act and communication skills
• The ability to work with others effectively as exhibited through one's respect for people and commitment to teamwork
