Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman is Hiring an Associate Attorney Near Kansas, MO

We are a long-established plaintiff’s law firm that specializes in handling serious personal injury and wrongful death cases, including medical negligence, trucking accident, and product liability claims. Our attorneys are dedicated to providing the highest level of representation to our clients and have a proven track record of success in securing significant settlements and verdicts.

We are seeking an Associate Attorney for a full-time, in-office position. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping individuals who have been seriously injured due to the negligence of others, be detail-oriented, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

Basic Qualifications:

1. JD from an accredited law school.

2. Admission to practice law in Kansas and Missouri ( or ability to acquire admission).

Essential Responsibilities/Requirements

1. Legal Research and Writing: Conduct thorough legal research and effectively draft legal memoranda, pleadings, and motions, meeting the highest standards of quality and accuracy.

2. Discovery: Handle all manner of discovery activities, including, as skillset warrants, taking and defending depositions and preparing and responding to discovery requests, ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures.

3. Mediations, Hearings, and Trials: Participate in mediations, hearings, and trials, and eventually lead such activities, demonstrating exceptional courtroom presence and advocacy skills.

4. Client and Expert Communication: Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and experts, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships.

5. New Business Development: Field calls from potential clients and assess potential merits of claims, and demonstrate a strong potential for the eventual origination of business and development of referral sources.

6. Team Collaboration: Work both independently and as part of a team, take direction and contribute one's own ideas and analysis to tasks and projects, and maintain a regular presence in the office to facilitate collaboration as well as supervision of staff.

7. Multitasking and Time Management: Multitask in a fast-paced and often stressful environment, with strong organizational, time management, and project management skills, prioritizing tasks effectively and meeting deadlines consistently.

8. Availability: Work non-traditional hours as needed, including working up to 60 hours per week for several weeks leading up to trial, and working extended hours unpredictably in order to address filings and often unforeseen time-sensitive case-related issues. Some weekend work will be required depending on client needs and trial schedules.

9. Physical Demands: When necessary, work on one's feet for extended periods during the day (e.g. multi-week trials) followed by evenings of research, writing, and preparation, demonstrating physical and mental stamina. Long periods of sitting may also be required.

10. Travel: The ability to travel, often to remote locations by car, for meetings, inspections, depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial, with the willingness and ability to spend significant time away from home and work out of town, as needed.

11. Leadership: The ability to lead staff and newer attorneys, providing guidance and support in legal research, writing, and other tasks, as well as promoting a positive and collaborative work environment. Additionally, the willingness to take on additional responsibilities and assist in training and developing other team members, as needed.

12. Enthusiasm: Demonstrate an overall enthusiasm for representing individuals who have been seriously injured due to the negligence of others, and maintain a strong commitment to the firm's mission and values.

13. Demeanor. Ability to work well under stress. Cooperate with all team members, including more senior and junior attorneys, paralegals and staff, as well as with clients and opposing counsel.

NOTE: Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman operates predominately on an "in person" office model. While occasional remote work is permitted, associates are expected to have regular attendance in the office in order to benefit from in-office mentoring and training opportunities, as well as the need to collaborate frequently with attorneys, paralegals and staff.
