ASSOCIATE Director of Development

Position Type: Year-round, Full-time, Staff Position

Salary: $60,000-$70,000/Year

Department: Development

Reports to: Director of Development

Shelburne Museum seeks an Associate Director of Development (ADoD) to be part of a vital department dedicated to growing and sustaining fundraising operations for the largest art and history museum in northern New England.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director plays a key role in the department, responsible for overseeing operations and development services including data management as well as coordinating a comprehensive annual fund. The ADoD, works in close partnership with other members of the department, to develop cultivation, stewardship, and engagement programs for higher level giving circles and provide support for membership programs, planned giving initiatives, and special events. The ADoD will understand and communicate Shelburne Museum’s mission and programmatic impact in a compelling message to effectively engage potential donors and to strengthen a culture of philanthropy throughout the institution.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

· Lead a robust, diversified annual fundraising program (30% of time).

  • o Developing multi-level fundraising strategies and messages
  • o Drafting written solicitations and support materials
  • o Overseeing list development
  • o Tracking progress and adjusting strategies as needed
  • o Incorporating special events and one-on-one solicitations into planning.

· Managing operations and development services (30% of time)

  • · Overseeing data entry and gift processing protocols
  • · Processing invoices and liaising with finance department
  • · Building out internal infrastructure for campaigns, appeals, and events.
  • · Producing reports for management, the board, and volunteers

· Working in close partnership with other members of the department as follows:

  • o Provide support for membership programs, planned giving initiatives, and special events (20% of time)
  • o Develop cultivation, stewardship, and engagement programs for higher level giving circles (15% of time)
  • o Administrative duties as assigned (5% of time)

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Capabilities to meet ambitious annual contributed income targets of $1M
  • Proven leadership and management skills that include creating and executing successful fundraising strategies and motivating staff and volunteers
  • Working knowledge of development operations and support services including data management, financial reporting, event production, and communications

Preferred Knowledge/Experience:

  • Event planning, production, and execution
  • Copy editing
  • Institutional giving
  • Moves management

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree or relevant life experience

· At least five years of demonstrated success in fundraising for arts and cultural projects with a preference to museums or other collecting institutions

· Experience with fundraising software including Raisers Edge or similar CRM as well as Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint.

The Associate Director of Development is a full-time, exempt position, based at the administrative offices in Shelburne. The job requires the ability to stand and/or work on a computer for long periods of time; walk up and down stairs multiple times throughout the day and lift at least 25 pounds. Some night and weekend hours are required for events and other museum activities.

Compensation and Benefits:

Shelburne Museum offers a generous benefits package including:

  • Combined time off up to 160 hours per year, 8 hours for your birthday, and 8 hours for community service leave.
  • Employees may contribute to the Museum’s Retirement plan, effective 1st of the month following their start date. After one year of service employees are eligible for a 2% Match and 3% Safe Harbor contribution, paid for by the Museum.
  • Other benefits include free Museum access for immediate family members and an employee discount at the Museum store and café.
