Shepherd ISD is Hiring an Academic Dean - High School Near Shepherd, TX

Primary Purpose:

Primarily responsible, under the direction of principal, for overseeing the academic program to ensure sound curriculum development and staff development in order to improve student achievement and meet the school wide goal of excellence for all.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Master's Degree Texas Mid- Management or Principal Certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal), concentrate, understand verbal instructions, analyze, differentiate, coordinate, compile, compute, instruct, and maintain emotional control.

High level computer skills especially in spreadsheet, word processing, presentation software, and educational /administrative software

Ability to work with many different people in a respectful, thoughtful, considerate manner

Minimum Experience:

Five years teaching experience in middle school and / or high school teaching

Administrative experience preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. Work with counselor to develop academic plans for students to aid their progress towards graduation.

2. Collect, analyze, and disaggregate data and work with administration and staff to use that data to develop interventions, re-teaching strategies, and instructional practices to raise advanced academic achievement scores.

3. Coordinate curriculum resources, including managing instructional materials.

4. Assist administrator, counselor, and department heads in designing the master schedule for all academic classes.

5. Work with counselors to oversee and implement student scheduling.

6. Coordinate and oversee alternative courses as needed (i.e. virtual schools, correspondence courses, etc.).

7. Monitor student attendance.

8. Manage RTI programs including assisting with the identification of at – risk student and coordinating early intervention strategies.

9. Attend campus or district meetings and professional development training as directed.

10. Assist with coordinating the student assessment program.

11. Promote collegiality and team building throughout the community.

12. Assist in designing and providing professional development based on data analysis and campus needs.

13. Work with counselors in creating and maintain the course catalogue.

14. Oversee and coordinate local scholarship monies and the allocation of funds. 

15. Collaborate with instructional staff to vertically and horizontally align the curriculum and instructional practices.

16. Assist in developing, implementing, and assessing the Campus Improvement Plan.

17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise extracurricular activities as assigned

Assist with before and afterschool supervision of students

Assist with lunch room supervision

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors: Ability to multi-task, memorizes, read, and coordinate. Ability to lift light weight stands, climb stairs, kneel, reach, perform repetitive hand motions, hear and possess visual acuity and significant fine finger dexterity.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel

Terms of Employment 205 days; salary schedule as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board
