Laza Medical, a Shifamed portfolio company, is engineering an intelligent AI robotic solution for interventional cardiology.
About ShifamedFounded in 2009 by serial entrepreneur Amr Salahieh, Shifamed LLC is a privately held medical technology incubator focused on the development of novel medical products to address clinical needs in the rapidly evolving fields of cardiology and ophthalmology.
DescriptionAs a Staff Mechatronics Engineer, you will be responsible for the architecture, analysis, development, and implementation of key subsystems of the medical robotic platform. You will translate product requirements into system and design requirements for the mechanisms, sensors, motion control, and software systems. This is a unique opportunity to design a system from scratch for a medical robotic system using all your experience and state-of-the-art technologies. This is a full time on-site position and will require reporting to our offices located in Campbell, CA.
Responsibilities, Skills & Hands-On Experience
  • Develop electro-mechanical assemblies, with careful consideration for key functions and safety.
  • Working within multi-disciplinary teams to define requirements for new and current designs.
  • Work with cross-functional project teams to design, develop and verify designs for robotic surgery systems.
  • Develop, implement, test and document new solutions, processes, and designs according to Shifamed standards.
  • Develop test methods and test method validations including simulated use testing.
  • Perform tests, critically analyze results, and make design changes or recommendations to achieve robust designs.
  • Provide support for pre-clinical laboratory work.
  • Lead problem solving and troubleshooting efforts.
Education & Work Experience
  • Minimum M.S. degree, PhD preferred, in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Robotics.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
  • Proficiency using CAD (SolidWorks), analysis and systems modeling.
  • Robotics/Mechatronic design experience:
    • Complex mechanism and precision machine design experience.
    • Robot actuator design, sensors design and integration.
    • Hands-on complex mechatronics system design, integration, testing and deployment.
    • Track record translating user needs into engineering requirements and elegant design solutions.
    • Familiarity with scripting and data acquisition.
  • Medical device product experience is a plus.
  • Ownership of key components or assemblies throughout development.
  • Self-driven with the ability to excel in a high-energy team.
  • Demonstration of strong analytical ability to test and assess design concepts, evaluate complex interface and associated performance.
  • Hands-on engineering with ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Good presentation skills and comfortable with hosting design reviews.
Our salary ranges are calculated by role and level. Your position within that range will be determined by your job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, and training/certifications. In addition to those factors, we also examine internal equity as well as consider current market rate, and title may be assessed one level lower or higher accordingly. After you join the company your performance, contributions, and results along with business and organizational needs will affect your base salary. The base salary range for this full-time position is between $90,000 to $180,000 equity benefits.
