Minister of Music Position

Introduction:
Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) is looking for a talented and passionate Minister of Music to lead our congregation in worship through music. The Minister of Music will be responsible for developing and directing our church's music ministry, including selecting music, managing the music staff, leading rehearsals, and coordinating with other worship leaders.

Job Responsibilities:
● Plan and lead congregational music during Sunday worship services, special music programs, including concerts, seasonal events, music workshops and other church services, including funerals.

● Select and arrange music appropriate for the worship style and ministry events on the calendar of the church.

● Recruit, train, and direct the church choirs, instrumentalists, and other musicians.
● Work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor and other ministry leaders by establishing exemplary relationships with church staff, volunteers, and members to ensure that music is integrated effectively into the worship experience.

● Maintain a library of music resources and oversee the acquisition of new music as needed.
● Develop and manage the music budget. Advocate on behalf of the music ministry.
● Attend worship services, church-wide special events, and meetings as needed.
● Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Activities
● Plan the Praise and Worship portion of our weekly worship service at 10:00am by choosing songs that engage the congregation and support the reading and preaching of God’s Word.
● Demonstrate and lead heartfelt worship in an inviting way—drawing people in, encouraging participation, and drawing people to Jesus.
● Recruit, develop, teach, and train voices for worship to serve the congregation as a team with worship skills and humility.
● Lead weekly rehearsals that serve a dual purpose: (A) preparation for Sunday and (B) cultivation of a Christ-centered community.

● Plan and collaborate with other ministries (e.g., dance, drama, children, young adults, etc.) for services or events (e.g., MLK, Black History, Christmas, Easter, etc.)

● Manage the absence of any musician so that suitable replacements can be found.
● Prepare, play, and coordinate instrumental selections for special music as needed.
● Coordinate with the Audio Visual team and musicians to conduct sound checks prior to worship services.
● Lead the praise and worship team during special services/events as needed.
● Conduct regular staff meetings for the purpose of planning, information exchange, learning, and evaluation with the music ministry team.
● Direct and supervise musical staff (paid and volunteer).
● Meet regularly with the Pastor to ensure praise and worship aligns with the needs of the church.
● Participate in other leadership activities required by Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site).
● Supervise the use and maintenance of the music library, musical instruments, choir robes, and hymnals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required for this Position/Qualifications
● A strong Christian faith and a commitment to worshiping God through music.
● Proficiency in playing either the piano/keyboard, organ, or both is required.
● Experience directing and leading church music ministries, including leading congregational music, directing choirs and/or instrumental ensembles.
● Knowledge and experience playing and directing a variety of musical styles and genres, including traditional and contemporary Christian music.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with other worship leaders and church staff.
● Demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills.
● Ability to read music and play by ear.
● Knowledge of voice instruction.
● Once hired, membership at Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) is desired but not required.

Job Type: Contract

Time Commitment: Approximately 20-30 hours per week

Salary & Benefits: $25,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
