As a Sanitation Manager, you will lead the development, compliance, training, problem solving, best practices and general technical support in the area of Sanitation across all Shoreline Fruit plants. Work with Operations, Maintenance, Quality and Food Safety, chemical suppliers, and contractors to ensure equipment, processes and the plant environment are suitably designed, maintained, effectively cleaned for food safety and quality and train and mentor sanitation staff across the organization. Responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures surrounding food safety and hygiene. In instances of violations, he/she develops a plan to correct the situation.
Day Shift: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. (flexibility as needed)

  • Starting pay: $60,000

Primary Responsibilities/ Essential Functions:
    • Provide training for individual Sanitation Programs to plant sanitarians and other partners. Mentor and coach sanitation leads and technicians at both manufacturing locations.
    • Work closely with Maintenance, and equipment vendors to ensure that new or modified equipment meets sanitary design and regulatory requirements prior to purchase and installation.
    • Review and analyze data from sanitation audits, pathogen environmental monitoring program, pre-op inspections, site audits, food safety audits (internal, third party, customers, and Regulatory), customer complaints, and other relevant data sources. Utilize that data to respond to trends and take corrective and preventive actions.
    • Direct sanitation efforts to ensure that cleaning requirements for all food contact equipment, packaging and process areas meet or exceed standards.
    • Develop and implementation of a Master Cleaning Schedule - Computer based. Manage all master sanitation cleaning schedules in the packaging, processing, and warehouse areas to meet or exceed standards. Verifies and validates the Master Cleaning Schedule. Provides any necessary training of the Master Cleaning Schedule. This includes the development and implementation of Master Cleaning Schedules at Shoreline Fruit Warehouse location. Develop sanitation documents and assist in the development of plant SSOPs, and sanitation audit documentation.
    • Proactively utilize process Key Performance Indicators (KPI) metrics to prevent problems
    • that could affect product quality and food safety. Investigate sanitation issues, which are resulting in product contamination, reduced shelf-life, or customer complaints or rejection of products. Assist in the identification of root cause and corrective and preventive actions.
    • Work closely with quality management and corporate accounting to have controls in place to monitor the performance of sanitation chemical vendors and pest management contractors to maximize technical expertise, provide full technical support and to drive results while being cost effective.
    • Conduct internal sanitation audits using Safety Culture and work with appropriate partners to address and resolve deficiencies.
    • Provide roof-leak escalation, microbiology indicators, and other relevant food safety programs support.
    • Improve product costs and operational efficiencies through planned annual projects and initiatives while protecting people, product quality and food safety. Partner with Sustainability for relevant water and chemical usage reduction projects.
    • Together with the leadership team, ensure compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer and regulatory requirements.
    • Interprets and communicates sanitation related customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups.
    • Establish and Audits CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met.
    • Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.
    • Partner with Safety group to ensure alignment between human and food safety for all chemical usage and sanitary applications.
    • Provides ongoing industry engagement through participation in training, best practice documents, and relevant industry groups.

Education, Experience:
  • Bachelors' in Food Science preferred
  • 1-3 years' experience in a management level position in a manufacturing environment. Food plant sanitation preferred.
