A successful Director of Performance Media must be an effective communicator and possess the ability to both work and lead a group in a team environment. This role must lead and foster a strong level of integration among all functions within Shutterfly Inc, and all agencies and internal resources across the organization. The role is focused on performance TV, social, display, remarketing and mobile app install efforts to drive new customer acquisition. Growth marketing management is a core component of the role to achieve measurable new customer acquisition and scalable growth opportunities. The role will coordinate closely with the analytics and brand teams to coordinate DR and branding efforts.
Management
  • Responsible for communicating with management on account and group status in a professional manner befitting a senior level team member
  • Responsible for facilitating each team member's development
  • Manage internal relationships
  • Supervise strategy development, implementation and maintenance of media plans
  • Ensure that management, Brand Teams, Merchandising and other teams have a sophisticated understanding of media
  • Manage the flow of media-related issues. Create solutions and resolve problems
Media Strategy
  • Insights - Challenge the team to discover and articulate insights and opportunities (not just facts)
  • Continually seek a consumer-centric view in all strategic thinking
  • Ideas - Manage implementation of integrating offerings and tools
  • Partner with and manage agency relationships to drive exceptional results.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-platform deals, when appropriate
  • Keep abreast of industry trends (trade press, seminars, current events, etc.) that may impact the business
  • Provide point-of-view on various media and changes in the marketplace (e.g. Shifts in tracking or privacy)
  • Develop creative, innovative approaches to strategically reaching the target consumer - Analyze competitive activity in the marketplace
  • Results - Grow relationships with mid-level to senior clients to become a trusted resource for Digital Media Marketplace information
  • Assess media performance to determine the extent to which the original objectives and strategies were met
  • Ensure that plans are across teams including marketing, brand, finance, merchandising, GMs and editorial social team
  • Handle all requests - i.e. plan changes, budget changes, effectively and with diligence
  • Ensure that all financials are reconciled
  • Meet with executives and industry representatives on a regular basis to pursue ideas that are strategically aligned with the business and foster strong relationships between Shutterfly Inc and the marketplace
  • Continually learn and gain expertise in new technologies and share that knowledge throughout the team

  • Thorough knowledge of the dynamics of media. How each media element performs alone, how they perform together and how they are constantly changing
  • A solid understanding of the skills and functions of the Investment side of the business, as well as knowledge of Strategic Business Units' competencies
  • An understanding of industry and environment within which s/he operates
