Job Description: THE OPPORTUNITY Do you spend hours on Instagram or TikTok searching for thrilling lesson plan ideas that inspire creativity? Can you design engaging activities that align to the National Core Visual Arts Standards? Do you love to make art, art history, and STEAM disciplines come to life in exciting ways? If so, you might be the perfect associate editor of education for Scholastic's STEAM magazines: Scholastic Art (grades 7-12), Science World (grades 6-10), SuperSTEM (grades 3-6), Science Spin (grades 3-6), and Scholastic Math (grades 6-9). These publications use a mix of current events and attention-grabbing stories to make connections to what students are learning in school. We are hiring an associate editor who is eager to inspire students and teachers, making art relevant and accessible to every student. The ideal candidate should have at least two years of teaching experience. They must be able to enthusiastically communicate with teachers and students. They will also be responsible for presenting at national teacher conferences. This job requires a highly organized individual with keen attention to detail. This is a collaborative work environment; the right candidate will be able to fluently express themself during discussions with coworkers and in group settings. They will also work closely with the other STEAM education editors to ensure that our STEAM titles have a shared strategy and cohesive messaging. RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the ideation of Scholastic Art’s Teacher’s Guide and online teaching materials, such as lesson plans, studio projects, and activity sheets. Contribute to the editorial process for student- and teacher-facing materials. Work with the editorial team to finesse teaching materials so they best support the National Core Visual Arts Standards Organize and deliver conference presentations and professional development webinars. Oversee the production of bi-annual surveys for our teacher subscribers and issue-by-issue surveys for our panel of teacher advisors. Manage communications and periodic virtual meet-ups with our panel of teacher advisors Oversee the magazines' digital outreach, including social media and eNewsletters Organize in-person and virtual class visits to ensure the magazines are supporting educators in their teaching goals. Qualifications HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent attention to detail, process, and organization Enthusiasm and interest in teaching art concepts precisely and accurately Strong public-speaking skills Knowledge of the National Core Visual Art Standards, and familiarity with various state art standards Ability to take initiative and work under tight deadlines. Knowledge of Qualtrics and Adobe InCopy is a plus. Experience and Education: Experience: At least 2 years of teaching experience; art teaching experience preferred.
