Job Description SummaryCentral Role to support the Director of Major Projects with Cost Control on multiple projects:
  • Ensure that the correct cost allocation methodology is used.
  • Maintain the cost allocation system, i.e. ensure correct set up of accounts and cost centers.
  • Process Invoices and record project cost (actuals, accruals, commitments)
  • Responsible for maintaining project budget
  • Provide monthly forecast of remaining cost
  • Proactively manage issues to ensure project remains on budget
Business Partnership
  • Work closely with Finance align the consolidation and reporting tools with the recent changes/developments/requirements in the business Project Budget.
  • Assist the Director of Project Controls to define detailed bottom-up requirements by accont, by cost enter, by major activity, by contract
  • Co-ordinate with procurement and supply chain on pricing and purchasing issues
  • Maintain records of prices in the system, to improve accuracy of estimates over time
  • Keep record of trends and approved changes to project approved budget
  • Liaise with Finance on Budget transfers and cost relocation
Cost Control
  • Maintain the cost allocation system, i.e. ensure correct set up of accounts and cost centers.
  • Ensure the correct cost allocation methodology is used and that the costs are allocated to the correct cost centers.
  • Assist the Project Director with opening approval items in our investments,, creating IOs in SAP and PRs.
  • Review Project invoices and ensure compliance is contractual T&Cs.
  • Verify equipment/material delivery/good receipts or engineering/ construction progress in the field before processing invoices.
  • Compare actual expenditures against budget and latest project plan
  • Proactively manage issues and develop strategies to ensure project remains on budget
  • Escalate relevant information regarding unusal trend, invoices or cost flows.
  • Manage contingency drawdown
  • Supply cost information to Project Director to avoid spending in excess of approved budget and develop analysis that demonstrates where to focus to reduce cost.
Reporting
  • Provide accurate cost information, i.e. Budget, actuals (including accruals), commitments, and forecasts to the project monthly report
  • Ensure full alignment between project and finance view on project cost (alignment between SAP, our investments and Power BI)
  • Develop transparent cost reconciliations and accurate monthly end of job cost forecasting.
  • Develop insightful cost reports to enable Project Director and Steerco to make informed decisions.
Requirements
  • 10 years’ experience in cost control in project execution environment
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business Management, Economics, Construction Management, Surveying
  • Useful certifications: PMI, AACE, SP, PSP, PMP or CA
