Through DoD SkillBridge and Hiring Our Heroes, Sierra Nevada Corporation provides internships to service members transitioning to the civilian workforce. These internships include up to six months of on-the-job training for eligible service members. During this time, participants gain valuable work experience in the civilian sector and build professional networks as they prepare for their transition to full-time civilian work. As an Avionics Technician, you will be using your skills and expertise to perform avionics maintenance according to FCC, FAA and company policies and regulations. You'll be responsible for moderately complex installation, testing, troubleshooting and repair of avionics components, and maintenance of test equipment, tools, and manuals. Learn more about IAS Must-haves: Currently serving as active duty military and be eligible to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 5 or more years of relevant experience A higher-level degree may substitute for experience Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education Ability to understand and interpret basic applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and/or publications; ability to route wires per technical drawings Advanced skills with avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, wiring installation, soldering, and crimping techniques Must have reliable transportation to and from work locations Must pass, written, oral and practical assessments Ability to speak, read and write in English The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required Preferred: Familiarity with FCC and FCC GROL Basic understanding of spectrometer, oscilloscope, and/or pitot static equipment Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military Ability to install and maintain fiber optic cables and systems onboard military aircraft according to MIL-STD 1678 Experience on wide body aircraft, including but not limited to, Boeing 767, 777, and 747 Proficient in basic computer operation At Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) we deliver customer-focused technology and best-of-breed integrations in the aerospace and defense sectors.
