FINISH CARPENTRY MILLWORK ESTIMATOR
ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER – HIGH-END (LARGE HOME BACKGROUND A MUST)
Silver Strand, Inc.’s top priority is to find a seasoned millwork professional with both carpentry “nuts-and-bolts” / “hands-on” experience, as well as extensive experience estimating with Microsoft Excel. Winning candidate will be specifically estimating large residential homes.
An ideal candidate’s abilities will need to be:
1. Estimating from digital plans / Estimating / Engineer and writing purchase orders for materials needed for complex change order requests typically for complex millwork SK drawings and new added detail drawings.
2. CAD drafting would be a plus for this position to help find new details.
3. Knowledge of hardwood lumber & veneers, door hardware, mouldings of all types, door jamb detailing, and optional slab door components for various manufacturing techniques used by door manufacturers.
4. Ability to complete estimates to a deadline
Additional skills needed to be successful in this position are as follow:
1. Calculate board footage
2. Calculate conversions between linear-footages, board-footages and square-footages as applicable.
3. Calculate square footage quantities from architectural plans to determine wall paneling sheet good count required
4. Reconcile complex change orders and possibly (nicely) joust with GC Project Manager, to clarify change order details. This would include the need to clarify material costs with a wide knowledge of:
• Lumber cuts and available sizes
• Lumber species and their respective properties (pros and cons by application...especially as related to movement from moisture or dry conditions)
• Scope and execution of a proposed change order, and the ability to then defend your pricing to the person approving project costs e.g. General Contractor, Project Manager, Owner’s Representative, Client...
