Join our team as the Director of Environmental Services at Webster at Rye! In this important role, the Director of Environmental Services is a contributing member of the leadership team directly responsible for administering Housekeeping, Floor Care and Linen Services. The Director of Environmental Services maintains the environment of the facility in a sanitary, orderly, safe and attractive condition while ensuring resident and associate satisfaction exceeds expectations.

  • Enforce the standards of the department and the policies of the facility.
  • Undertake special assignments as instructed by the Executive Director.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained and schedule staff in accordance with planned work assignments.
  • Produce a quality product daily through the staff by positive direction, example, constructive counseling and monitoring of work activities with documented evidence.
  • Effectively communicate with other department heads, staff, management and supervisors regarding activities, losses, damage, changes, schedules, mechanical defects, recommendations, supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Actively participate at Department Head meetings.
  • Organize and chair Housekeeping/Linen Department meetings and distribute minutes.
  • Communicate to staff any daily changes, special projects, daily goals and other assignments.
  • Analyze, develop and maintain written quality standards for the community.
  • Plan work assignments, hours and work locations to ensure quality service throughout the community.
  • Orientate and train staff in quality standards regarding cleaning procedures, methods, chemicals, equipment, supplies, techniques, safety and linen management.
  • Ensure quality standards are met through inspection and evaluation of the community.
  • Recommend painting, repairs, furnishings, relocation of equipment, re-allocation of space to improve sanitation, appearance and efficiency.
  • On-going evaluation and analysis of new equipment, supplies, chemicals, procedures, and techniques for modification or adoption into current quality standards.
  • Maintain all departmental records such as MSDA sheets, equipment, and counseling.
  • Evaluate all staff performance, write and deliver performance appraisals.
  • Responsible for issuing progressive discipline and/or terminations, after consulting with Human Resources and Executive Director, when warranted.
  • Prepare recommended annual budget for labor, supplies, equipment, materials, linens, etc.
  • Control the Department's expenditures for labor, supplies, equipment, materials, linens, and uniforms within annual budget and log all expenses.
  • Record and maintain inventories and logs on all supplies, and equipment including equipment repairs.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly, maintained and repaired properly.
  • Ensure staff is utilizing efficient linen management.
  • Ensure staff is using cleaning chemicals in the proper mix and used in the manner recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Aware of security of the community, residents and staff from fire, theft, etc.
  • Educate and ensure that staff assumes safe and responsible behavior and work practices for themselves and their own work environment.
  • Assume safety responsibility and awareness for self, staff and residents.
  • Participate in fire drills, evacuation and emergency procedures for department and community.
  • Responsible for filing incident and accident reports and investigations, including implementation of corrective actions.
  • Attend community sponsored in-services, including but not limited to body mechanics, right-to-know, fire and safety procedures, etc. on- or off-site.
  • Prepare and teach departmental in-services on chemicals, equipment, training, material safety data sheets, hazard communication, safety responsibilities, right-to-know, orientations, procedures, etc.
  • Train staff members in orientation, quality standards, work procedures, safety, and policies of the community.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Executive Director.
  • High School diploma required.
  • College degree recommended.
  • Previous experience as a Housekeeping Supervisor and/or Assistant Director of Housekeeping and Linen Services necessary.
  • Membership in National Executive Housekeeping Association required after training employment.
  • Ability to handle numerous responsibilities at the same time.
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be flexible including work schedule based on business needs.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Ability to be a hands-on leader including prolonged periods standing and walking and push, pull, life up to 50 lbs.
