YOU

As an Assistant Branch Controller, you will direct activities of product costing, product manufacturing analysis, inventory valuation and capital expenditure requests. You’ll perform various monthly closing activities, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, internal financial reporting, and financial analysis. You will show a dedicated commitment to accuracy and interject critical thinking into every project completed.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (% of Time)

The Assistant Controller will be a key leader to help drive and measure process improvements within our branch sites (inventory management, productivity, margin expansion), and within the finance department (accurate and timely financial statements). Key focus is the accurate and timely month end close activities including but not limited to journal voucher preparation, accruals and amortizations, account reconciliation, earnings analysis, financial reporting. (50%)

Develop and document policies and procedures that maintain and improve processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs, cycle counting, and inventory valuation. Ensure validity and accuracy of systems through analysis. Coordinate with internal and external audit for compliance. (30%)

Develop, review, and provide standard costs for all inventory types. Provide management with reports comparing factors affecting profitability of goods/services. (20%)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform the financial close process and provide critical review, analytics, and commentary pertaining to financial performance compared to expectation; Support intercompany transactions, clearings, and consolidation; Complete assigned monthly account reconciliations timely and accurately
  • Prepare and issue financial, labor, expense, and other KPI reports that support decisionmakers on all levels (projects, operations, sales, and consolidated); Work with purchasing and operations to help identify cost savings initiatives
  • Practice continual review of financial activity, focusing on project performance and accuracy, as well as total entity performance and accuracy
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on financial planning for our branch, including annual budget and weekly flash reports, monthly, and quarterly forecasts; Provide key input for annual budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, inventory cycle count program
  • Coordinate and lead quarterly and annual audit process, including walk-throughs, PBC requests, inventory counts, and other on-site observation; Maintain and organize documentation that supports audit requests, including cycle count sheets, invoices, shipping documents, journal entry support, reconciliations, etc.; Identify and communicate on-going problems and concerns to Controller and necessary stakeholders
  • Manage the capital expenditure process by assisting operational staff with Capex request creations, auditing capital assets prior to management review, and monitoring accounting and record-keeping once capital projects are approved.
  • Work with AR, AP and Purchasing to resolve PO and invoice issues including, quantity, pricing, and other GR/IR discrepancies; Support the management of all active contracts, monitor billing schedule, rebates, and help ensure all requirements for data submissions are met timely
  • Maintain updated, detailed work instructions for all assigned tasks; Meet all required due dates with completeness and accuracy; Additional projects and ad hoc reporting, as required

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
  • 10 years of experience with general ledger accounting and closing processes. Ideally CPA or working towards accounting designation.
  • 3 or more years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is ideal.
  • Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to research and apply accounting pronouncements as appropriate.
  • Experience in reviewing, analyzing, and implementing accounting and financial reporting standards.
  • Ability to work in a Microsoft software environment; experience in advanced Microsoft Excel, BI and BPC experience is a plus. SAP experience strongly preferred; large scale ERP experience required.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively present information and professional opinions in verbal or written format in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in identifying information needed to solve a problem effectively, and the ability to streamline and automate complex transactional processes.
  • Operations literacy and attitude of accountability is a must; Commercial/Sales literacy is a plus
  • Must be able to work independently and quicky adjust to a fast-paced, growing environment
  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is essential for this role

This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners, etc. are frequently used.

Travel

This position requires occasional overnight travel up to 10% of the time.

Work Status & Location

This full-time, exempt position is located in McKinney, Texas. The possibility of part-time remote work from home.

Relocation

Relocation is not available for this position.

Pay

$80,300 - $128,500 / year
