Sims Metal Management is Hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator Near Richmond, KY

Must pass pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen.

The pay rate is $17.00 per hour.

The schedule is Monday to Friday 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Job Summary:

To grade or process material in a safe and efficient manner and in line with company requirements through the operation of mobile or fixed plants and various load-shifting equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operates mobile plant and equipment such as forklifts, yard sweepers, front-end loaders, skid steer, forklift, excavators, mobile sheers, or skid steers, in line with applicable procedure
  • Safely operates fixed plant such as the bailer, car compactor, shredder, or static shear in accordance with applicable procedures
  • Identify material in line with ferrous and/or non-ferrous grading requirements.
  • Load and unload material to and from transport vehicles and transport to the correct location safely, efficiently and timely.
  • Complete any documentation such as pre-start checks, in accordance with company requirements and provide to Yard Manager or Supervisor as required
  • Report issues to the Yard Manager or Supervisor and make recommendations as required
  • Conduct basic fault finding in accordance with basic procedures
  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability policies, procedures, and initiatives
  • Support diversity and inclusion, positive employee relations, and team environment
  • Support measures designed to effectively manage costs and adherence to budgetary requirements
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Comply with all Company policies, procedures and initiatives relevant to the job
  • Support training and performance management initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience working heavy equipment including Excavator, Front End Loader and Forklift

Knowledge of and ability to identify ferrous and non ferrous material, preferred

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator comfortably.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, and other correspondence.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.

Skills:

  • Basic fault finding skills
  • Verbal and basic written communication skills
  • Time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Basic numeracy skills

Working Conditions:

  • Constant physical effort, including standing and sitting is required during a regular work shift
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform key duties
  • Exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting
  • Exposed to the natural elements
