The Position Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Engineer in its Tucson, Arizona location. Within a global biotechnology company, employ Solidworks and associated Analyst Tools to create 3D models and 2D Drawings and work to ensure technical specifications meet standards defined in ASME Y14.5-2009. Design and perform process characterization studies to develop and improve existing assembly processes and partner with cross functional teams to evaluate design and processes at concept phase and define manufacturing processes. Investigate complex issues pertaining to automated equipment and its components using system thinking approach and perform Root Cause Analysis using Six Sigma Tools. Develop Custom Automation which includes process optimization to support improvement projects. Perform requirement analysis to capture user needs and pursue DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) projects to implement improvements, and employ data analytics to monitor statistical process control. Collect and develop requirements and quality specifications. Develop and test conceptual process steps for the implementation of modified/new processes and support validations activities. Perform risk assessment and update process Failure Modes and Effect Analysis files as needed and support qualification of expanded production line and validation of scaled batch sizes. Perform technical assessment of processes to work with cross-functional technical teams and review vendor's documents to ensure the system specifications meet defined process requirements. Create and update standard work instructions to ensure lean manufacturing of instruments and reagent products. Own change orders to implement updates to documents related to production and quality systems (i.e. Temporary Deviation, Mfg. Work Instruction etc.). Provide technical support and failure analysis, for discrepant machine components and support Instrument Maintenance team with preventive and corrective maintenance activities, sign off verification forms. May telecommute up to 1 day a week. Education and experience required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management or Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or closely related field, and 1 year of academic (teaching/research assistant) or industry experience as a Process, Chemical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Production Engineer, or closely related role. Special Requirements: Must have at least 6 months of academic (teaching/research assistant) or industry experience with each of the following: Process engineering Lean manufacturing AutoCAD and ProE modeling software Instrument manufacturing U.S. FDA quality system regulations The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Arizona is $79,320 to $107,800 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
