SUMMARY

Our Kennel Assistants are focused and communicative team members responsible for providing care, feeding, and handling animals throughout the shelter. Kennel Assistants are also responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the kennel equipment and facilities.

COMPENSATION AND WORK SCHEDULE:

This position starts at $15/hour and the work schedule would require 3-5 days a week during the hours of 7am-1pm, which includes one weekend day. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES  include the following:

• Treats animals humanely both on and off the job and transmits these values to others.
• Promotes a positive workplace culture and environment by bring your best self to work.
• Ensures assigned kennel areas are thoroughly sanitized daily in a timely and proper manner.
• Disinfects and rinses animal dishes, litter boxes and other items used in housing or feeding the animals.
• Monitors animals daily noting any signs of illness, changes in eating habits, loss of weight, vomiting, diarrhea and reporting such to Kennel Team Leader.
• Monitors animals daily for external and evident internal parasites reporting to Kennel Lead or Veterinarian.
• Assists Veterinarian staff and Kennel Director in determining which animals are to be euthanized.
• Ensures laundry is completed as instructed.
• Assists on holidays.
• Checks and cleans assigned kennels as scheduled.
• Ensures animals in assigned kennel areas have appropriate food and water as instructed.
• Sets up housing for incoming animals.
• Put animal in kennel.
• Food, water, blanket
• Place in system (or ensure it is done)
• Monitors counters, floor areas, bulk food containers, etc. in the kennels to insure a neat, clean environment at all times.
• Communicates with Veterinarian staff as to which medications need ordering.
• Places animals up for adoption.
• Vaccinate
• Temperament testing
• Micro-chip
• Flea-test
• Complete data entry on system
• Other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in a kennel environment helpful.

Must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for employment at SFAHS.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver’s license is preferable, but not required. Ability to carry appropriate insurance is also important.
