The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a qualified candidate for the position of On-Call Preparator. Reporting to the Head Preparator, this on-call position with a variable schedule will perform a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the preparation, installation, deinstallation, and care of objects and works of art at the museum level.

Salary range: $25-27 per hour

Responsibilities:

• Use museum best-practice methods to handle, move, pack, and install artwork and objects
• Safely handle and install/deinstall and maintain art, artifacts, ephemera, graphics, signage, labels, lighting, and related materials for exhibitions
• Receive and uncrate shipments of art and related exhibition materials
• Assist in the preparation and fabrication of temporary exhibition components such as display cases, mounts, frames, pedestals, and temporary walls

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:

• Strong working knowledge and skills of fabrication and production techniques and in the preparation, installation/deinstallation, and care/handling of valuable objects in a museum or gallery
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds
• Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
• Ability to multi-task and complete projects in a timely manner
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Preferred: experience working with wood and machine shop tools; knowledge of audio-visual equipment

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 29 per week
