SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is Hiring an Office coordinator Near Menlo, CA

Position overview :

The SAGE Journey mission is to advance and accelerate scientific excellence through diversity by increasing the number of women and gender minorities in technical and leadership roles at DOE National Laboratories.

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory SAGE camp (Science Accelerating Girls Engagement in STEM) is a one week-long summer camp program for high school students hosted by the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory’s scientists and engineers to share what everyday life in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) profession is like.

Our goal is to strongly encourage college bound students with a passion for discovery and innovation to become a part of the STEM community and show that STEM fields offer a diverse set of opportunities : one can balance interests in artistic expression, historic research, and creative writing with application of logical thinking, analytic skills, and computational ability.

The students will learn about the STEM community and what an everyday life of a scientist or engineer is like and experience that STEM allows one to explore and balance many interests.

The students will also meet women and men in STEM at various stages of their career as well as meet and connect with other students with similar interests and become a part of a community of SAGE students.

Stimulation of innovation within the STEM fields is essential for ensuring growth and for providing competitive advantage to the scientific and engineering community of the U.

S. This program targets to foster innovation, grow the STEM community, and engage intelligent, creative, and passionate young women in everyday life of scientists and engineers of the National Laboratories.

We’re seeking a Program Coordinator to develop, implement, and administer the vision and goals of the SAGE Journey program.

Your specific responsibilities include :

  • Administer the planning and coordination of the SAGE camp program, SAGEx high school clubs, SAGE live events and their related activities under guidance of the SAGE camp program PI and the SAGE Journey Program PI.
  • Camp planning and execution within time and budget limits.
  • Develop and implement policies and practices for the programs to ensure long-term effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Develop, administer, and evaluate the programs, including outreach to various stakeholders (principal investigators, SLAC students and staff, human resources, IT, funding agencies), create reports and analyze data, review trends and make program improvement recommendations.
  • Maintain budget and track expenditures / transactions.
  • Manage communications through media relations, social media etc.
  • Build positive relations within the team and external parties.
  • Schedule and organize meetings / events and maintain agenda.
  • Ensure technology is operating properly for the event (video conferencing, presentations etc.)
  • Develop outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships and fundraising.
  • Coordinate youth during the camp event.
  • Coordinate staff and volunteers prior to and during the camp event.
  • Ensure that all SLAC and Stanford policies are followed leading to and during the camp.

To be successful in this position you will bring :

  • High school diploma and four years of administrative experience, or combination of education and relevant experience in youth program coordination
  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and efficient.
  • Proficiency and prior experience in event organization
  • Proficiency in management of communications through media relations and social media
  • Proficiency and prior experience in coordinating personnel schedules
  • Tech savvy, proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to work with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
  • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.

In addition, preferred requirements include :

  • Prior experience working in STEM community.
  • Prior experience in working with youth (14-17 years of age)
  • Proficiency and prior experience in maintaining budget and tracking expenditures.
  • Proficiency and prior experience in implementation of organizational policies and practices
  • Prior experience in building positive relations within the team and external parties.

The expected pay range for this position is $33.17 - $43.75 per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit.

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory / Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
