GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This is a non-supervisory position which requires technical ability. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining water pumps, equipment and facilities, collecting samples, performing basic lab testing and other routine plant operations will be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ? Check chemical levels and refill or replace containers; ? Check water levels and pump operations; ? Runs routine laboratory tests every two hours to determine proper chemical treatment; ? Maintain plant records; ? Observes and inspects plant quality of raw water and all plant equipment; ? Collects water samples and sends / delivers them to Tarrant County Health Laboratory; ? Maintains chemical feed pumps to ensure proper dosage of chemicals; ? Backwash filters as required; ? Must be capable of using push mower and tractor mower to maintain facility grounds; ? Will be responsible for keeping all buildings and work areas clean; ? Will assist in minor maintenance on machinery and equipment; ? Prepare daily reports on plant operations and controls; ? Ability to move 40 pound bags and 55 pound buckets of chemical; ? Employee will be subject to emergency call-outs as needed; ? Must be available to work on any shift either day or night, the Water Treatment Plant is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operation; ? Performs routine grounds and building maintenance; ? Must arrive at work on time and maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance. OTHER IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS:
- CLIMBING: Ability to climb into and out of flocculators, sedimentation basins, etc.
- CLEANING: Clean parts and machinery, clean buildings, lab and work areas.
- CRAWLING: Under vehicles and equipment.
- DRIVING: Cars and trucks. HOLDING: Tools with both hands and all fingers.
- KNEELING: In one place for long periods of time.
- PULLING AND/OR PUSHING: Using both hands to operate large hand tools and/or pull such things as hoses or equipment.
- HEARING: Must be able to hear radio transmissions. SIGHT: Must be capable of seeing equipment and gauges.
- STANDING: Must be capable of standing for long periods of time. STOOPING: Must be able to stoop over for long periods of time.
- IFTING: Able to lift 60lbs (2 man lift 100lbs).
WORKING CONDITIONS (ENVIRONMENTAL):
- EXTREME COLD: Must be able to withstand temperatures as low as 20 degrees for up to an hour at one time.
- EXTREME HEAT: Must be able to withstand extremely high temperatures for up to four hours at a time.
- WORKING OUTDOORS: Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, day or night.
- CONFINE SPACES: Works in confined spaces.
- ODORS/CHEMICALS: Some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust chemical, and toxic waste hazards, using proper safety precautions.
- SAFETY: Uses good judgement to work safely and use equipment property
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: ? Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ? Ability to work without direct supervision; ? Ability to attend and understand technical courses; ? Ability to assume responsibility for complete operation of treatment plants; ? Ability to detect problems in equipment operations. ? Ability to make sound, independent, decisions requiring treatment plant operations.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and/or physical exam. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol testing throughout their employment. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
