Smile Brands is Hiring a Patient Services Specialist Near Home, MI

Smile Brands is a dominant player in the dental space and we are seeking a Patient Services Specialist to join our team. The Patient Services Specialist is required to have excellent communication skills with internal and external customers, ability to identify and resolve discrepancies timely, assist with outbound and inbound collection calls, negotiate payments and arrangements and post transactions with accuracy. The Patient Services Specialist will ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory compliance is met; and achieve individual and department goals and objectives.
Schedule (days/hours) Monday - Friday
Responsibilities
  • Deliver excellent communication and customer service when interacting with dental offices, management, team members and patients.
  • Follow telephone scripting and professional email etiquette when assisting customers or offices.
  • Answer inquiries about a patient dental bill to discuss services performance.
  • Have the ability to read an explanation of benefits.
  • Identify account discrepancies (posting errors, incorrect adjustments, insurance billing errors, etc.) and forward the appropriate resource for solutions and corrections.
  • Partner with other departments to ensure account balances are accurate and refunds are issued when necessary.
  • Resolve escalated patient complaints regarding balances by conducting research and providing thoughtful resolutions. Be an advocate for the patient.
  • Initiates calls and/or correspondence with patients to inquire and collect delinquent balances or make payment arrangements.
  • Use negotiating skills to collect payments or set up a payment arrangements with patients.
  • Assist with patient accounts qualifying to be assigned to an outside collection agency.
  • Meet productivity and collection goals, established by management.
  • Be compliant with collection rules and department policies and procedure.
  • Handle incoming mail and distribute appropriately.
  • Post payments and adjustments with accuracy. This may include epayments, checks, credit cards, write-offs, bad debt adjustments, etc.
  • Itemizes and verifies past due patient accounts.
  • Prepares and mails collections letters to patients.
  • Assist with legacy and closed offices when assigned.
  • Works with a sense of urgency to ensure all eligible accounts are assigned to third party collection agencies.
  • Participate and collaborate team meetings to build team morale and improve performing results.
  • Alerts management of any concerns as it relates to, but not limited to: account details, treating office practices, department and company practices, department processes.
  • Ensures compliance with established company and department policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience in related field
  • Negotiation/sales experience
  • Experience with a high volume of calls
  • Advanced data entry experience, 10-key touch and can type 35WPM
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Attention to detail and ability to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Analytical skills and high attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience working in Dental front office or back office
Compensation$18 per hour
