Smith and Loveless, Inc is Hiring a Routing Specialist (Manufacturing) Near Lenexa, KS

Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: "Protecting Water. Protecting People." We are seeking a Routing Specialist who is experienced at routing custom manufacturing orders through the production processing, interacting with engineering and manufacturing operations.

The Routing Specialist is responsible for establishing the movement of raw materials and parts through work centers, assigning manufacturing standards, developing standards, assisting with product structures, releasing work orders, processing revisions, modifying sales order configurations, and providing cost/bidding support.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Process jobs received from the Engineering department to review job-specific part numbers and create fabrication and assembly routings.
  • Review Job Engineering Order to ensure Engineering BOM includes all requirements
  • Work with engineering to correct any errors found in the BOM or on drawings.
  • Modify Sales Order Configurations based on the Manufacturing processes
  • Assist in training the Application Engineering group on how the sales orders need to be entered in order for Production Control not to have to modify the configurator later
  • Assist Engineering and Application Engineering in testing as updates to the configurator are needed.
  • Process Engineering Change Notices (ECN’s) requiring routing changes in a timely manner.
  • Process ECN’s for new part numbers to create fabrication and assembly routings.
  • Assist Production Planners with change orders requiring new part numbers being added to a released order requiring fabrication and assembly routings.
  • Assist Industrial Engineering in time studies to update or set new standards.
  • Assist Cost Accounting/Bidding as needed.
  • Assist with Machine Scheduling for our sister machine shop
  • Other duties as assigned by the Material Manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 2 years of previous experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Machine scheduling experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Mechanical aptitude, good math skills, detail-oriented, and accurate.
  • Ability to read and understand bills of material and establish priorities.
  • Proficient in utilizing a Windows-based PC.
  • Possesses basic MS Excel experience and can write basic formulas.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable working at times in a machine shop environment.
  • Experienced with copying and scanning documents.
  • Possesses excellent note-taking skills and has proven follow-through abilities
  • High School degree or GED.

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Associate degree in a related field.
  • Experience with an MRP and an ERP.
  • Experience with the configurator in an MRP.
  • Has prior machine scheduling experience.
  • Industrial Engineering experience.
  • LEAN manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with a custom, made to order manufacturing process.

EDUCATION:

  • High School degree or GED. An associate degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of previous experience in a Manufacturing environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Normal office environment. Must be able to walk, sit, stand and climb stairs on a regular basis.

EQUIPMENT:

  • PC utilizing current MS Office programs – specifically Excel
  • MRP and/or ERP
  • Configurator of an MRP system
  • Office Telephone system
