Smurfit Kappa Vitop is Hiring an Industrial Manufacturing Maintenance Tech - Injection Molding - Nights M-F Near San Antonio, TX

The Senior Maintenance Technician ensures equipment uptime through timely, in-depth troubleshooting and repair of all equipment failures. Shares knowledge of all production equipment to leads, operators and material handlers. Acts as a subject matter expert on behalf of the plant in at least one of the following equipment areas: Injection Molding, Assembly and Material Handlers. Performs troubleshooting and repair of facilities including auxiliary equipment such as chillers, air compressors, other water filtration equipment and general maintenance of the plant. Works directly with the Maintenance Technician, Leads, Machine Operators, Supervisors, and Management to resolve mechanical issues. Through the use of preventative and predictive maintenance processes, the Sr. Maintenance Technician champions continuous improvement efforts and assists with training in their designated focus areas.

Primary Duties

  • Perform all work in accordance with the highest standards of SKNA-Vitop safety policies, ensure all safety policies and processes are enforced.
  • Oversee and train Leads, Operators, and Material Handlers on technical procedures related to Injection Molding and Assembly manufacturing.
  • Remains active on the floor including providing any “hands-on” trouble shooting and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Work directly with plant leadership to develop and execute projects involving continuous improvement, upgrades, and the resolution of re-occurring problems.
  • Rapid identification of machine problems to minimize equipment downtime with root cause analysis conducted to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Partner with Supervisors to resolve cross-functional problems.
  • Use of available software systems to analyze and identify issues to drive throughput performance.
  • Assist in preventative maintenance and overhaul efforts to rebuild equipment to like-new status during planned downtime.
  • Procedures in the areas of Injection Molding processing, Assembly machine processing, Labeling technology, Auxiliary systems including resin handling/blending, resin drying, dehumidification, vision, mold systems and Plastic processing.
  • Works closely with EHS Manager and Maintenance Manager on any projects concerning Environmental projects for the plant.
  • Collaborate with purchasing stock control of maintenance parts.
  • Advise, in the first instance, the Plant Manager at the earliest opportunity of any concerns he/she may have regarding the Performance of the department and/or its processes.
  • Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance, and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
  • May interface with vendors and suppliers as necessary to discuss products used in repair work and/or projects that need to be completed.
  • Performs other work-related duties and project work as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience in maintenance functions for Manufacturing or Process Improvement; preferred
  • 3 years’ experience with Injection Molding and Assembly Machines
  • 3 years’ experience managing people/projects
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics: electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic.
  • Skilled in the use of shop equipment such as hydraulic and mechanical presses, bench grinder, drill press, mill and lathe, and assorted power tools.
  • Proficient skills with precision measuring equipment, such as calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and depth gauges.
  • Skilled in fabrication capabilities such as cutting and welding (mig, tig or stick).
  • Skilled working with electrical systems including 480VAC & 24VDC power.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics for process and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Skilled in the repair of variable frequency drives, servo motors and controllers, communication systems (asi-bus, can-bus, profi-bus, ethernet), PLC input/output cards, and safety modules.
  • Good knowledge of ANSI/ISO/FSC/; Quality Management Systems; Knowledge of SAP a plus; Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and written), dealing with individuals at all levels; comfortable to represent the company in the best possible light.
  • Excellent analytical skills, methodical approach and commercial acumen; Applies analytical thinking.
  • Ability to work against strict deadlines and deliver on time; capable of prioritizing various tasks among team.
  • Provide sound information to Management, supporting him/her in his/her decision making process.
  • Display well developed organizational skills, demonstrate initiative & judgment and a proven record of service excellence.

Physical Requirements

To successfully perform the essential functions of this role it requires the ability to: stand regularly, walk frequently, frequent use of hands (reach with hands and arms), view computer monitor, use telephone, speak and listen frequently.
