Smurfit Kappa is Hiring a Production Leader Near Houston, TX

Production Leader is in charge of the entire production process for a particular or set of products. They plan, organize and recommend strategies in ensuring that the product is developed successfully, in accordance with all specifications. They supervise teams that work in operations and product development. The production leader is responsible for overseeing all aspects of their plant, including budget, maintenance, quality control, receiving and shipping, and day-to-day operations.
Primary Duties
  • Ensure safe, efficient production with minimum waste
  • Maintain established quality standards, machine efficiencies, and production levels
  • Train employees and provide continuous training, including cross training, for each conversion crew member
  • Ensure the performance and documentation of quality control checks
  • Maintain materials necessary to perform production duties
  • Coordinate with supervision and maintenance on any necessary repairs or preventive maintenance and document with work orders
  • Process all reports completely, accurately, and in a timely manner
  • End of shift reports analyzing productivity, downtime, areas of improvement, root causes, etc.
  • Coordinate and supervise departments to maintain safety, quality, and efficient production
  • Oversee performance. Communicate Company standards to staff Work with Sales and Design on new styles or items for run-ability on existing equipment
  • Work with Sales Service to determine proper instructions forwarded to production for producing items
  • Establish high morale throughout your staff by showing fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee problems
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Assist the Plant Scheduler in such a manner to fill the requirements of the customer and keep costs at a minimum level
  • Oversee inventories of raw material, wip and FG and consumables
  • Responsible for maintenance work performed on the machine
  • Work with staff, upper management, and other supervisors to develop and maintain methods of operation, including necessary departmental training
  • Enforce corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with the violating employees and union representative
  • Improve career skills by enrolling yourself in seminars, technical courses, and related college courses
  • Provide input for annual budget and capital plan
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including union contract, safety program, and good housekeeping
  • Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance, and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Able to speak, read, comprehend, and write legibly in English
  • Able to lift 25-50 lbs. on a consistent basis
  • Read a tape measure with speed and accuracy
  • Read and follow instructions on factory masters
  • Have a working telephone number on record with Human Resources, supervisors, and Ops Manager at all times
  • Qualified Operator
  • Demonstrated personnel supervisory skills
  • direct manufacturing experience
  • Clear, concise oral and written English communication skills
  • Spanish (preferred)
  • College and/or related technical courses, preferred
  • Five years' experience in the corrugated box industry, preferred
