Summary/Objective 

The Accounting and Financial Reporting Manager leads key processes within the Finance and Accounting department. This position is in charge of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and prepares analytical reports to be used by management. This position also prepares state tax reporting and oversees the quarterly and year end close.

A comprehensive understanding of financial reporting is required. This position works across multiple departments to help improve processes and communicate company procedure. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive, proactive attitude and open to various tasks as they are needed.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Financial Reporting

1. Prepare annual and quarterly financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
2. Work with external accountant on year-end review and final reviewed financial statements.
3. Prepare and present quarterly budget for departments and provide budget to actual analysis at the close of each quarter.
4. Review project margins (estimated and actual) and provide project management with detailed reports on budget to actual performance related to projects.
5. Assist in the preparation of the quarterly work in progress schedule to account for long term contracts using the percentage of completion method of accounting.
6. Prepare sales commission statements monthly to determine commission payments to sales directors.
7. Help oversee the operation and maintenance of Sage Intacct and Fyle systems. 

Accounting

1. Perform monthly reconciliations, including a bank reconciliation for each bank account, to identify and resolve any differences.
2. Prepare month-end accruals as part of the closing process.
3. Oversee companywide corporate card program and expense account reimbursements.
4. Oversee and review GL accounts to ensure bookkeeping is in accordance with GAAP.
5. Oversee internal controls, processes and procedures.
6. Report company fixed assets and depreciation.
7. Assist in AR and AP process as needed. This position will be involved in the treasury cycle and assist with the receipt and release of payments related to AR and AP.
8. Be available as a short-term backup for accounting operation functions.

Sales/Use Tax

1. File monthly sales and use tax returns in 35 states and make appropriate payments.
2. Review sales tax payable accounts at quarter end to correct any discrepancies and ensure accruals are accurate.
3. Track project related purchases to remit use tax.
4. Track customer sales by state to make sure all tax filing is correct.
5. Research applicable sales and use tax laws, regulations and rates for various states and localities.
6. Work with regulators to make sure we follow state and local regulations.

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position does not require supervisory responsibilities at this time. This position may take on supervisory responsibility based on company/department growth.

Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a professional and/or home office environment. This position will report to our New York City office 2 - 3 days per week. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

This position does not generally require travel.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in Accounting/Finance
2. CPA strongly preferred
3. 4-10 years of experience working in accounting / audit / financial reporting
4. Detailed oriented and organized
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills
6. High level MS Excel & Word Skills
7. Experience working with accounting software. Knowledge of Sage Intacct is a plus.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant is strongly preferred
