Job DescriptionNew Direct Hire Clinician Opportunity!
The Clinician is responsible for conducting individual & group counseling sessions, and crisis management with unaccompanied children and youth residing in a 24-hour shelter funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). Individual behavioral sessions will focus on each child’s needs using Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) interventions such as Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Group sessions will introduce diverse topics in a psycho-educational format. Services will also include completing intake assessments and completing individual service plans meeting required timelines required by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and ORR. Must strictly enforce and adhere to ORR’s Zero Tolerance Policy regarding abuse and neglect and all relevant ORR policies and procedures always ensuring the safety of the children and youth. Responsibilities:
  • Assess children and youth, establish rapport, and document significant incidents observed or self- reported by the child or staff.
  • Complete all required assessments with youth and update UC Portal and the company’s internal software system to include(Risk Assessments, Human Trafficking, Evaluation, Red-Flag Identification, Mental Health Assessments and Screeners, Individual Service Plan (ISP) and updates, Trigger Assessments, and Case Summary Updates.)
  • Assessments and formal mental health status exams must be documented in the UC Portal within 48-hours of completion or sooner.
  • Crisis intervention, de-escalation, and aiding children and youth in self-regulation will be conducted as needed.
  • Completes Individual Service Plans and treatment plans for children and youth and updates as required per policy and contractual agreement based on MDHHS and ORR requirements.
  • Complete other specialized assessment tools based on the child’s/youth’s individualized needs such as the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Youth Inventories among other validated tools.
  • Conducts age-appropriate individual counseling sessions with children and youth.
  • Submits case logs timely and participates in weekly case staffing as needed with Case Management and Federal Field Staff
  • Coordinates and communicate with Case Management Department, and other departments to provide timely updates regarding youth’s emotional and behavioral.
  • Attends Treatment Team Meetings. As part of this multi-disciplinary team determine if change to the youth’s supervision level is needed due to expressing suicide ideation, or danger to self or others and develop a Children’s Support Plan.
  • Completes High-Risk Forms to ensure the proper supervision of youth as needed.
  • Adheres to all timeframes for behavioral and mental health services as required by MDHHS licensing and ORR.
  • Receive approval for and complete referrals for psychological or psychiatric services for children and youth.
  • Assist in crisis and emergencies that involve a need for de-escalation, crisis management, and aiding children in self-regulation.
  • Conducts 1:1 sessions for each child and youth in care according to company, MDHHS, and ORR standards. Must coordinate with Youth Care Professionals. Assist in training YCPs to aid in group sessions as needed.
  • Writes, edits, and submits Significant Incident Reports (SIRs) in a timely manner to avoid delays in reporting and communication of all incidents to stakeholders (program staff, ORR/Federal Field Staff, Relevant State Licensing entity, etc.,).
  • Assist in the intake process to identify trafficking and other red flags for children and youth arriving into care.
  • Must ensure adherence to MDHHS and ORR requirements for the daily overall care and release of children and youth in care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested to support the safety and reunification of youth in care.
Education & Experience requirements:
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or other related fields required, with 2 years of clinical experience working with children or youth and 1 of those years in a residential setting is preferred. May include Internship or Volunteer positions held.
  • Licensed in the relevant field of study or be licensed eligible in the state of Michigan. If actively involved in the process of becoming licensed the candidate may still be considered for the position upon approval by ORR.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to work with iPads, Laptops, and desktops to complete daily tasks.
  • Able to work cooperatively with multiple members of a Team including program staff, state licensing personnel, ORR/Federal Field Staff, and other office personnel.
  • Well organized and highly motivated.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from sponsors, family members, direct care staff, state licensing representatives, and ORR/Federal Field Staff.
  • Bi-Lingual English / Spanish: Speak, Read, and Write.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively, verbally and in written formats.
  • Gather and/or maintain information for reporting requirements (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually).
