Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Controls Professional will be responsible for providing high quality project controls services, managing costs with regard to all aspects of cost management for the assigned project or team. Duties include developing project estimates, budgets, schedules, change management, forecasts, progress tracking, cashflow and manpower requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Perform cost management activities in support of in-house projects to provide proactive and accurate information to project teams.
  • Develop and implement project administration and reporting systems including estimates, budgets, schedules, manhour, cost, and earned value reports.
  • Assess project cost performance based on spent, commitments, earned value
  • Prepare cost reports and provide regular updates to teams on cost and schedule tracking and performance.
  • Liaise with engineering personnel regarding scope, changes, trends, forecasts etc.
  • Liaise with accounting personnel regarding actual costs and accrual values and ensure overall good coordination between project cost systems and accounting systems.
  • Liaise with contractors regarding progress, schedules, contract administration, etc.
  • Coordinate with other project personnel to develop effective WBS structures.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering earned value reports.
  • Provide cost and schedule input to monthly reporting and management presentations, including evaluations and presentations of status; compare forecasts to the approved budgets and provide explanations of variances.
  • Support project staffing and manpower forecasts/usage.
  • Provide support and assistance with Company business development efforts.
  • Prepare cashflow and cost commitment forecasts.
  • Identify scope changes and prepare change notices/requests.
  • Prepare and maintain scope change logs and trend logs.
  • DIRECTION RECEIVED
  • Works under general direction from Project Managers, Project Controls Supervisor, and in support of Project Controls Leads, in accordance with Project Controls procedures.
  • Project Managers will provide direction regarding client specific work products, deadlines, priorities, and budget constraints.
  • Supervision, administration, and technical assignments are given by the Project Controls Supervisor.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS
  • This position is not responsible for any administration or supervision, but regularly provides guidance and mentoring to junior Project Controls Specialists/Technicians and Interns.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or Equivalent combination of experience and training
  • 2 years in Project Controls role
  • 1 years' experience in mining, utilities or petroleum industry preferred, although other industry experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency in full suite of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and spoken word and be able to work closely and interact with a wide range of disciplines.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Good problem solving abilities and ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Flexible to work off hours on demand.
  • Willingness to learn and take on different responsibilities when required.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Must be physically fit and able to work safely at a construction site.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work will be mainly conducted in-office, however, employee may be assigned to work at off-site locations from time to time. Overtime may be required at times to make deadlines.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENT

    Occasional domestic and/or international travel and field assignments.
