Overview: Reporting to the Director of Construction, we are seeking a Construction Manager to oversee special projects, remodels, and fixture swaps for our commercial and retail locations. In addition to managing smaller, more specialized projects, the Construction Manager will occasionally oversee the full construction of new store builds. This role requires strong leadership, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to deliver high-quality results on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Project Oversight: Manage all phases of special construction projects, including remodels, fixture swaps, and occasional new store builds. Coordinate planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution of each project.
- Hands-on Work: Lead by example, applying hands-on expertise in carpentry, drywall framing, painting, and other construction tasks when needed. Perform or assist with construction duties, including demolition, framing, finishing, and minor repairs.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate on-site crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and to specifications. Foster a collaborative work environment to maintain high standards of workmanship.
- Budget and Timeline Management: Create detailed project budgets and timelines. Monitor costs, control expenditures, and track progress to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Quality Control: Ensure that all work meets company standards, safety regulations, and local building codes. Perform regular inspections and quality checks to ensure the highest quality of work is being performed.
- Vendor & Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with internal stakeholders, including designers, project managers, and executives, as well as external vendors and contractors. Provide timely updates on project progress and resolve any issues that arise.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with local and national building codes and safety regulations. Conduct regular safety briefings and site inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of project timelines, costs, changes, and communications. Prepare and submit project reports as required by senior management.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience in the construction industry will also be considered.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in construction management, specifically in retail or commercial remodels, special projects, and fixture installations. Experience managing new store builds is a plus.
- OSHA 30-hour certification or similar safety training is preferred.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus but not required.
- Strong background in carpentry, drywall framing, painting, and other basic construction skills. Ability to perform hands-on work when needed or direct others in performing these tasks.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Experience using project management software is a plus
- Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to manage and motivate construction teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with senior leadership, vendors, and cross functional teams in a clear and professional manner.
- Ability to identify problems and implement effective solutions quickly, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
Special Requirements
- Occasional overtime or weekend work depending on project deadlines.
- 30% travel (including overnight) is required to job sites
- Work will be performed both in the office and on active construction sites.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and occasionally lift heavy materials or equipment up to 50 pounds
