SUMMARY
A Water Maintenance Technician is a skilled/journey level class in the Public Works Water Distribution, Treatment and Maintenance Mechanical series. General operation and maintenance of Domestic/Irrigation Water Systems. Performs a variety of advanced and routine predictive, preventive, and/or reactive skilled duties in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of water facilities. Monitors, operates and maintains the automatic chlorinators and performs water quality sampling to ensure safe, clean potable water for the community. Maintains and updates records of production work performed in the field.
This position requires a motivated field maintenance technician to have a working knowledge of proper water works plumbing methods and techniques; cuts, fits, welds, lays and repairs water mains; cleans and flushes water mains, valves, and hydrants. Working knowledge of light and some heavy equipment operating principles, practices and procedures. Must be available to respond to emergency “call outs” at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions. A large percentage of the position is fieldwork.
