SoBran is Hiring a Research Technician I Near Norfolk, VA

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Primary duties may include the following:

*All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:30am and depart at 4:00pm M-F. You will be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. The weekend hours are from 7:30am-12:30am.

This person is expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel and issues within the facilities. We expect the Research Technician I to be forward thinking and create and assist in developing plans to enhance the learning abilities and performance of the staff working on this contract. The Research Technician I will assist the Project/Program Management in the efficient allocation of the budget and develop and maintain an effective relationship with the EVMS staff.

  • Understands and follows all SOP's and Quality Assurance Standards, including but not limited to infectious diseases, radioactive materials, hazardous chemicals, etc.
  • Understands and abides by Department of Comparative Medicine personal protective equipment (PPE) practices as they pertain to specific species, disease conditions and/or restrictions.
  • Performs animal health checks twice per day and reports any abnormal animal conditions to the veterinary technician, Asst./Facility Supervisor and/or Attending Veterinarian.
  • Feed all animals the appropriate diet and amount unless otherwise directed by the veterinarian and/or study director.
  • Check automatic water system to ensure proper function and/or replace water bottles daily or as instructed by the veterinarian and/or study director.
  • Disposes of dead animals following standard SOP's and policies.
  • Changes animal caging, to include feed and water, according to SOP's and/or specific approved protocols and the schedule established by floor supervisor.
  • Sexes and weans animals according to the SOP's.
  • Maintains daily animal census sheets, room equipment and status form sheets, and other forms or logs according to the SOP's or requested by the facility supervisor, veterinarian and/or study director.
  • Cleans and sanitizes animal facility and assigned rooms according to SOP's.
  • Maintain supply room, feed and bedding supplies and equipment inventories.
  • Receives, examines, transfers, identifies and properly houses incoming animal shipments according to SOP's.
  • Assist with the restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as requested by the veterinarian and/or investigators.
  • Provide enrichment devises to NHP's and all other species as identified by the enrichment specialist and/or veterinarian.
  • Perform cage wash, autoclaving, and cage preparation duties.
  • Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolonged period.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • Highschool diploma/ GED or equivalent preferred

Preferred AALAS certification at ALAT level or equivalent training or experience.
