SummaryLOCATION: This position is located in the TSC Director's Office 600 W. Madison St., 4th Floor, Chicago, IL 60661. TOUR OF DUTY: Flextime | Full-time | Alternate work schedules may be available. TYPE OF POSITION: Temporary not-to-exceed 1 year. May be extended, may become permanent.
DutiesThe position description number for this position is 92A68S. A summary of the major duties are listed below. You may also view the full position description on the Agency intranet at the following link: PD Search The TSC Deputy serves as full deputy and "alter ego" to the Teleservice Center (TSC) Manager and is responsible and accountable for the overall program management, direction, planning, objectives, policy-making and coordination of the Teleservice Center. Assumes full responsibility for operations in the absence of the Teleservice Center Manager and acts on all matters with full authority of commitment within assigned jurisdiction. The Deputy performs confidential and sensitive assignments for the Teleservice Center Manager and speaks on his/her behalf at internal and full performance level external meetings and conferences. .
QualificationsApplicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: developing new policies and directing their implementation; serving on agency-wide workgroups, making recommendations; providing advice and counsel and operational guidance and assistance. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they posses, or have the potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision as follows: (a) ability to assign to and review work of subordinates, train and work effectively with subordinates from a variety of backgrounds and with different levels/areas of training, (b) ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of cost and time, (c) ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively, (d) ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to the work, (e) ability to understand and further management goals as these affect day-to-day work operations, and (f) ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures. Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants for promotion must have 52 weeks at GS-12. Time in grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

The best-qualified list for this vacancy may be used to fill the same or similar positions in a component(s) under the same Deputy Commissioner. Additional selections may be made within 6 months of the date the best qualified list is issued. Applications for noncompetitive consideration will be accepted from SSA employees in the area of consideration who are currently serving under the following types of appointments: Schedule A, Reg. 213.3102 (U) appointments for individuals with disabilities and time limited appointments for veterans with a compensable service-connected disability of 30% or more. Applicants serving under these provisions do not need to submit copies of your disability or Veteran's documentation. However, you must submit a current SF-50 that provides information on the appointment authority under which you were hired. Otherwise, you will not receive non-competitive consideration. NOTE: Excepted service employees serving under Schedule A appointments for Attorney positions or Pathways Programs appointments (Presidential Management Fellows, Recent Graduates, and Interns) are not eligible for consideration. LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay. OTHER NOTES: This position is temporary not-to-exceed 1 year. Temporary promotions or reassignments may be extended or become permanent. Selected employee(s) must complete a 1-year probationary period for a supervisory position unless the employee served in such a position before August 11, 1979, or has completed one. This is not a career ladder position, GS-13 is the full performance level. This position is eligible for telework. Travel expenses for temporary assignments will be paid as appropriate according to applicable travel rules and/or regulations.
