Responsibilities

The risk professional sought for this position will work actively on key market risk and counterparty credit risk initiatives within the region. The Counterparty and Market Exposures analysis team works in coordination with other risk departments (asset class specialists, market and counterparty risk officers, enterprise risk teams) to ensure the risk management program is of the right standards and evolves in accordance with best practices.

The candidate should have a strong understanding of market risk methodologies and framework, assist the team in organizing and coordinating inputs from various subject matter experts and contribute to enhance risk oversight. 
The role will require strong analytical skills and knowledge of market risk metrics, of the controls and processes around market risk. The candidate should develop a strong and hands-on knowledge of key risk metrics and reporting and have synthesis ability in order to communicate key findings within the risk department, to the senior management, as well as outside the risk division including LOD1 and external regulators.

The main accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze market activities impacting the SGUS portfolio from a market risk aspect
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis on specific topics from data extraction and computation to impact analysis on specific perimeters
  • Prepare risk management reports and present them to US senior management and external regulators
  • Contribute actively to the risk identification process of SGUS and to the risk materiality assessment
  • Monitor market risk exposures and activities of trading desks impacting the SGUS risk profile
  • Help to improve measures and methodologies to assess the market risk while combining market and counterparty expertise, including stress testing and other cross risk topics
  • Maintain strong relationship with different stakeholders within the risk department but also with Front Office, Finance, Operation and with the team counterparts in Europe and Asia 
  • Lead and contribute to the effort of improving market risk analysis and comments (understanding of the portfolios and their composition, main drivers of risk, P&L and income attribution, best way to visualize data, etc.)
  • Continuous streamlining and optimization of risk reporting processes and systems using programming language (Python)
Profile required

Division Description:

The Compliance department acts as Second Line of Defense of the corporate banking, investment banking and broker–dealer activities across Societe Generale’s operations, reporting on the compliance risks and issues to local, regional, and head office management. The staff provide the business lines with guidance on relevant laws, rules, and regulations applicable to their activities and the development of related policies, procedures, training, and controls. The department oversees compliance with external and internal rules that govern our banking and financial activities including Know Your Customer, anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism financing, sanctions & embargoes, client protection, market integrity, anti-bribery & corruption, and data protection. Additionally, it provides trade and communications surveillance, and manages transversal support functions that help the department achieve its goals.

Within the RISQ division, MMG's major missions are to meet the regulatory challenges of tomorrow, to support the development of the business lines and to enable the Group to meet its ambitions in terms of client satisfaction and efficiency.

Skills and Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • 5 years with strong experience as market risk officer or in a similar role
  • Programming experience using Python
  • Previous experience in Counterparty Risk monitoring a plus
  • Bachelor/Master in Finance, Statistics, Financial mathematics or similar field
  • Strong quantitative orientation and analytical skills
  • Strong ability to synthesize complex metrics and subjects to extract and communicate the core information
  • Highly motivated and fast learning individual
  • Knowledge of market instruments, risk analysis and methodologies / valuation models of financial products
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the flexibility to communicate and build relationships with internal and external clients; strong written communication skills; overall strong interaction ability with key stakeholders including external regulators
