WHO WE ARE
The SPCA of Polk County is the oldest nonprofit no kill animal welfare organization in Polk County, having served the community for over 45 years, through pet adoptions, rehabilitation, transport, community programs and more recently a low cost spay, neuter and wellness clinic. With a facility over 10,000 sq. ft. located in Livingston, TX and caring for 150 dogs and cats at any time.

JOB DESCRIPTION
An animal care attendant is key to happy and healthy dogs and cats, the future forever pet of a lucky family. The role requires various physical activities, such as moving animals, deep cleaning their accommodation, feeding, watering, recording or noting physical or mental changes to medical. Walking visitors through areas to find them the perfect pet, providing feedback on traits and personality to the office team, ensuring areas of work are kept to the highest standard, managing inventory. Communication is key in this role, as is working well alone or within a team.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
Knowledge of basic animal behavior and proper methods of animal restraint.
Able to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in an animal shelter. Potential for exposure to high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, animal waste, hazardous chemicals, sharp objects and potential hostile persons or dangerous animals.
Ability to lift and carry objects and animals of moderate weight
Ability to lift, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and other strenuous activities
Walking and/or standing for long periods
May be required to handle difficult animals
