Society St Vincent De Paul is Hiring a SENIOR ACCOUNTANT Near Saint Louis, MO

OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant is responsible for financial reporting and supports the efforts of Accounting and Finance, such as bank reconciliations, reconciling balance sheet accounts, financial data analysis, preparing financial reports and other accounting duties as assigned in support of the SVdP mission. Employees in this position are able to apply fundamental accounting principles and practices to a variety of responsible accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and other fiscal functions. Work is performed under general direction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Payable/Cost Reporting

  • Verifies and sets up vendors in accounting system
  • Monitors W-9 requirements
  • Performs electronic filing of all 1099s
  • Collects and analyzes financial data

General Accounting:

  • Performs bank reconciliations for review by others
  • Manages and reconciles all credit card accounts and payments
  • Enters journal entries for payroll and monthly accruals
  • Prepares journal entries for review by others
  • Performs monthly balance sheet reconciliation
  • Performs month-end close
  • Assists with fixed assets and depreciation
  • Knowledge of Right of Use Asset accounting
  • Assists Director with cash flow and banking requirements such as fund transfers
  • Other duties as assigned

Financial Reporting:

  • Ensures timely reporting and balancing of monthly financial information
  • Makes allocations of overhead to operations
  • Produces monthly accrual-based financial statements
  • Assists Director with monthly internal financial statement package
  • Assists Director with preparing and monitoring agency and program budgets
  • Assists with external year-end financial, inventory and tax audits

Compliance, Policies & Internal Controls:

  • Monitors and analyses processes to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy and achieving budget
  • Assists director with special projects and workflow process improvements

Continuous Improvement under LEAN

  • Knows the eight wastes (over-production, transportation, inventory, defects, over-processing, excess movement, Customer waiting time, wasted employee potential)
  • Identifies and acts on opportunities for operational improvements within work area
  • Identifies and participates in eliminating waste
  • Shares expertise and knowledge to support growth and development of others enabling them to grow and improve in performance
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Supports and demonstrates excellent customer assistance by following the SVdP Customer Service Motto to “Serve our Valuable Customers with Distinction and Purpose” which defines “our valuable customers” as both internal and external; i.e. co-workers, neighbors, donators, vendors, organizational contacts and thrift store consumers.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Business Accounting or Finance
  • At least five (5) years of comprehensive accounting experience required
  • Experience in Non-Profit sector required
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to SVdP mission

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of:
    1. Generally accepted accounting principles (Intermediate Level)
    2. MS Office skills (Intermediate level)
    3. QuickBooks Desktop
    4. Office methods and procedures
  • Skills and Abilities:
    1. Perform detailed work involving application of accountancy theory to accounting problems
    2. Evaluate accounting problems and analyze and interpret accounting records and reports
    3. Perform detailed work involving written or numerical data calculations rapidly and accurately
    4. Proficiency in accounting software and tools
    5. Work effectively with a team
    6. Communicating, orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
    7. Organization and collaboration
  • Physical:
    1. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
