Solutions Driven is Hiring a Compliance Engineer Near Edinburgh, IN

Solutions Driven is hiring on behalf of our client, who operate in the Appliances, Electronic, and Electrical Manufacturing space, for a Head of Product Compliance.

As we continue to grow and sell more products in more places, the regulations and standards we must meet grows too. That’s where YOU come in – we are looking for a detail-orientated individual that can identify and communicate product requirements to the wider business to ensure we comply with all relevant regulations, standards and legislation in all the countries we sell. You will play a pivotal role in making sure our products bring the joy to the world.

The Role

You will be a part of the Compliance and Approval team working in the wider Global Manufacturing and Supply team. We remove the barriers to accessing markets to make sure that our products are not kept off the market by regulations and standards.

We are responsible for ensuring that all products comply with all relevant regulations, standards and legislation in all the countries we sell. This covers, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Gas appliance safety
  • Electrical appliance safety
  • Radio approvals
  • Banned and Restricted Substances
  • Food Contact Materials

We use internationally recognised standards to demonstrate compliance as well as country or region-specific standards, experience with the following will be beneficial:

  • EN 498-1,
  • ANSI Z21.89 / CSA 1.18,
  • EN/IEC 60335-1,
  • EN/IEC 60335-2-9,
  • EN/IEC 60335-2-14,

As part of our team, you will be responsible for guiding and consulting with engineers to ensure that products are designed to be compliant. You will liaise with the relevant authority in the countries we market our products, providing them with all certificates and other requisites to allow sales in that country.

We work closely with independent accredited test service providers to make sure that our route to compliance for our products is understood and accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Manage pre-compliance, compliance, and other product related testing.
  • Ensure all test activities are performed in a timely manner in accordance to test plan and in strict adherence to the appropriate international test standards
  • Coordination of first and third party laboratory activities by establishing completion dates and using aspects of project management.
  • Evaluate test samples, inspecting them, using measuring instruments and checking documentation
  • Evaluate test performance, provide feedback to project design team
  • Collaborate with product design team to resolve issues arising from testing.
  • Collaborate with approval agencies and third party test laboratories to obtain testing, evaluation services and product certification.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Work with our Operations team to ensure all components, materials and components within finished products are compliant.
  • Review all product related markings, packaging, and manuals
  • Produce and maintain all compliance declarations and product technical files ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and ensure any changes are communicated to the relevant regulatory party.
  • Review and advise the impact of any product changes or engineering change requests in the context of certification currently held on products.

Please note it is required to go into the Edinburgh office 4-5 days a week.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with International standards, conformity assessment, approvals certification processes and associated legislation.

  • Experience of specifying requirements and then assessing that they have been met through testing, inspection and documentation
  • The ability to communicate complex technical information simply
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
