SolvChem, Inc. is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Mechanical / Electrical Technician who is a hardworking skilled technician to join our Chemical production & distribution plant in Pearland, TX. Starting rate for this role is $30.00 per hour, depending on experience and you will work an 8 hour shifts with extended hours, so overtime is required!

Role and Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Mechanical / Electrical Technician will maintain the day-to-day operations of production equipment and support equipment, under the direction of the Maintenance Manager/Lead.

  • Performs safe and timely mechanical and electrical support
  • Identify mechanical or electrical malfunctions in the system or sub-assemblies
  • Carry out tests, measurements and adjustments prior to powering-up tests
  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests/ work orders as requested and assigned by the Mpulse maintenance request system.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, repairing equipment, installation, service, repair troubleshooting and resolution of multiple operating machines within a manufacturing chemical environment to ensure all equipment is operating in a safe manner.
  • Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems including* Variable-frequency drives (VFD), Controls and Programmable logic controllers (PLC’s).*
  • Troubleshoot process equipment, automation issues that may arise at the production line
  • Provides inputs in to pm and calibration maintenance on production machinery
  • Repair or adjust equipment, machines, or defective components, replacing worn parts, such as gaskets or seals on pumps.
  • Examine work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problems.
  • Coordinate efforts with other workers involved in installing or maintaining equipment or components and contribute to upgrading of installations (electrical, automated systems and regulation).
  • Maintain regulatory equipment for insurance inspection, maintenance records to ensure adherence to applicable safety standards and comply with all company, local, City, State, Federal, OSHA guidelines
  • Maintain equipment logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, or tests
  • Determine feasibility of using standardized equipment or develop specifications for equipment required to perform additional functions
  • Inventory control, parts/materials research
  • Assist in packaging and manufacturing area to include start up / shut down of facility.
  • Maximizes production in a safe manner and meets all customer specifications
  • Supports improvement projects and coordinate special projects as directed by the Maintenance Manager
  • Monitor and coordinate with external contractors engaged in preventive/ corrective action activities, calibration executions and other related works.
  • Performs duties consistent with established safety rules and procedures
  • Performs duties consistent with hazardous waste and hazardous material handling procedures and practices

Qualifications, Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Required: GED or High School Diploma
  • Preferred: Associates Degree or greater from an accredited college in Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechanical (or a high school diploma/GED or 5 years of experience in field services.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment to include; operations, maintenance of utilities equipment including clean steam systems, process air, chiller plant, HVAC, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) or Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and the Human Machine Interface (HMI's) that support these.
  • Required: minimum of 4 years of mechanical experience
  • Required: minimum of 4 years of electrical experience
  • Mechanical assembly skills on large equipment a plus
  • Must have an Mechanical / Electrical and/or Electrical and Instrumentation craft qualifications.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Work System (CMMS) or a similar system required.
  • ELECTRICAL TECHS- knowledge and experience with troubleshooting Variable-frequency drives (VFD) - motors, motor drive systems and Programmable logic controllers (PLC)

  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations
  • Analytical aptitude, commitment to accuracy and quality, problem solving skills, attention to detail
  • Efficiency, productivity, strong organizational skills and accuracy
  • Time management, with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • This position is required to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) including but not limited to full face respirator, chemical protection suite, steel-toed boots, rubber gloves, face shield, apron, etc.
  • Must pass an annual respirator fit test. Exposure to fumes, dirt, noise and hazardous chemicals on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to pass company’s Drug & Alcohol Screenings.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Analytical aptitude, commitment to accuracy and quality, problem solving skills, attention to detail
  • Efficiency, productivity, strong organizational skills and accuracy
  • Time management, with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure

Physical Demands/Working & Environmental Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold including climates consistent with outside weather conditions.
