Job Summary

The Patient Advocate position is a very versatile position and can encompass many duties in the clinic. Your primary focus is the patient. Patient Advocates are one of the first points of contact for patients, both in the office as well as over the phone, and must represent the vision, mission, and values of Solvera Health at all times. They support the rest of the medical care team helping to streamline patient processing, maintain clinical flow and ensure an excellent patient experience. The duties could be in the front office area, checking patients in and out, or in the Call Center.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The Patient Advocate is not a supervisory role

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets patients and visitors in a welcoming and friendly manner in person and on the telephone. Ability to answer basic informational inquiries and refers questions to other staff members as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by telephone or in person.
  • Schedules appointments for all providers and services to optimize patient satisfaction, provider time and most effective use of resources
  • Maintains accurate records by researching insurance information when necessary and entering correctly in databases. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information at every visit. Collect co-pays when applicable.
  • Performs general customer service tasks as they arise, including assisting ill or distraught patients, to ensure the patient is treated with hospitality and dignity. Coordinates with family members or Solvera Shuttle Driver when necessary for transportation.
  • Assists in maintaining the reception area in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Provides patients with billing and payment information and answers questions regarding insurance eligibility.
  • Scan all necessary documents and billing information, such as insurance cards, and verifies that it loads properly to EMR
  • Participates in the medical office emergency routine when required, which may include summoning the ambulance or EMS as well as assisting clinical staff members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain a professional and hospitable demeanor, treating patients, caregivers and colleagues with compassion and patience, including interacting with and assisting ill, older, or distraught patients.
  • Experience in a clerical setting including office skills such as typing, filing, and windows-based computer programs and data entry
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and maintain strong attention to detail

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year experience in a medical office setting preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up-to 25 pounds at times.
