The Registered Nurse is a clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, and implementation. The RN effectively interacts with patient, significant others, family members, and other health team members, while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice. This role is also responsible for phone triage, abnormal test result delivery and corresponding care instructions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs a comprehensive assessment on all assigned patients as evidenced by completed documentation.
• Identifies and prioritizes patient needs and/or nursing diagnosis for patients and documents.
• Promptly informs provider of any significant changes in patient’s condition.
• Utilizes appropriate nursing diagnosis and data from the assessment to derive realistic outcomes and documents them as measurable goals on the plan of care; modifies care plan, if indicated, in order to identify realistic patient goals.
• Assesses patients with regard to provider’s planning and makes the appropriate referrals as necessary.
• Documents all observations and interventions in the patient medical record as appropriate
• Maintains privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information at all times in accordance with HIPAA regulations
• Collaborates with patient, family, and other members of the health care team when planning patient care, and documents accordingly.
• Implements nursing interventions consistent with the established plan of care.
• Demonstrates safe vaccine and medication administration and/or other prescribed treatments and procedures as ordered by the provider. Administers oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular or intradermal medications as delegated.
• Evaluates and documents the patient’s response to nursing interventions and alters the plan of care as necessary.
• Participates in established educational strategies to promote, achieve and maintain optimum patient health outcomes as delegated.
• Oversees and directs the work of patient care or support techs; maintains overall accountability for the care of assigned patients.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the charge nurse/preceptor role when assigned; assumes responsibility for coordinating patient care for the entire unit.
• Performs additional practice specific duties within the scope of practice of the RN as delegated.
• Complies with all organizational policies and procedures, and acts according to ethical business standards to complete assigned tasks
• Other duties as assigned by Practice Manager.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

Required:

• Registered Nursing license issued by the State of Illinois.
• Current experience (within past five years) or new nursing graduate (within past two years)
• Accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.

Preferred:

• Minimum of one year's experience in pertinent clinical specialty preferred
• Exceptional interpersonal skills in leading and directing others; deals with conflict directly and appropriately.
• Basic computer skills; experience with Electronic Medical Record
• Second language proficiency desired
