SOME is Hiring a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Near Washington, DC

SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help homeless and poor individuals and families in Washington, DC. Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking afull-time Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to support our FQHC (Health Services) department.

Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $139,318.00 to $163,696.00 and may be commensurate with experience.

Position Description: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) undertakes the responsibility of conducting psychiatric assessments and managing medications for patients within SOME's Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Additionally, they offer training, assistance, and educational support to fellow providers and personnel as required.

Furthermore, they offer consultation to team members on specific cases. Collaborating with the Chief Clinical Officer or assigned representative, they provide leadership and counsel on matters concerning mental health and psychiatry. Moreover, they supervise or engage in internships and preceptorships associated with the FQHC.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm (40 hours per week); This position is eligible for hybrid/telework options, as approved by the supervisor.

Required: BSN or MSN with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) concentration; 1-2 yrs experience providing psychiatry services (can include preceptorship); experience counseling on trauma and addictions

Preferred: PMHNP with 3 yrs experience providing psychiatry services; experience counseling on trauma, mental health issues, addictions, and dual-diagnosis

Required License/Certification: CPR/First-Aid, State Control Dangerous Substance Certificate, PMHNP, License by the District of Columbia Department of Health, willing to get Licensed by the WV Board

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations, such as HIPAA, and state-specific mental health laws.
  • In-depth understanding of a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental health conditions.
  • Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria for diagnosing mental health conditions.
  • Awareness of cultural, social, and economic factors that influence mental health and access to care.
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Exhibits sound judgement
  • Demonstrates professionalism and maintains confidentiality while working with sensitive issues

Expected Contributions: Psychiatric Treatment and Services

  • Cultivate therapeutic relationships with clients.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients according to the latest DSM and ICD codes.
  • Maintain thorough progress notes and update electronic health record for each patient visit
  • Provide patient education on symptoms, symptom relief, and medications
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and pharmacological management
  • Identify corrective client interventions
  • Refer individuals to Primary Care, Dental services, therapy, Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment, therapeutic groups, or hospital admission as necessary.
  • Provided crisis support as needed

Administrative

  • In collaboration with the Chief Clinical Officer, Senior Vice President (SVP), and Senior Director, supervise compliance with regulatory bodies for the agency.
  • Ensure the completion of administrative paperwork and documentation within the specified timeframes.
  • Meet client visit requirements as outlined
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies concerning psychiatric medication and administrative decisions for the FQHC and agency.

Consultation

  • Engage proactively in Professional Development initiatives, interdisciplinary treatment meetings, and offer guidance to staff regarding treatment planning and patient advancement.
  • Provide ongoing client consultation, including patients in West Virginia residential treatment, and other SOME programs
  • Provide necessary education to staff on mental health issues, psychiatric medications, and dual diagnosis/co-morbidities.
  • Collaborate with clinic staff and the Behavioral Health Consultant to maintain integrated care within the FQHC.
    Conduct site and community visits as needed to deliver training and educational sessions.

Reports to: Senior Vice President, FQHC

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Covid-19 Considerations: In alignment with DC Health, COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are mandated for personnel working in SOME’s healthcare-designated programs, which currently include Medical, Dental, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Exodus House, Jordan House, Kirwan House, Keuhner Place, Leland Place, and Mary Claire House.
