Job Summary

Services provided by CSU student health centers include, but are not limited to, primary medical care, counseling and psychological services, and sexual health education and support (including provision of medication abortion services.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Counseling and Psychological Services and the Student Health Center, the Medical Assistant (MA) is a formally trained, certified, multiskilled, and key member of a dedicated team of Student Health Center staff providing high quality, evidence-based medical care & prevention services to support the health & success of SSU students.

The incumbent is involved with a variety of medical and administrative support duties that fall within the scope of practice defined by the Medical Board of California.

Responsibilities include assisting with front and back office patient flow, patient visits, procedures; diagnostic tests, medical reception, scheduling, medical records, and similar responsibilities including using an electronic health record system.

Duties are performed in a busy collaborative environment that requires flexibility, versatility, the ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers, work quickly and accurately, balance competing priorities, and assure follow-through.

Key Qualifications

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities, along with one or more full time equivalent years of medical assisting experience, preferably in an outpatient setting.

The incumbent is required to have completed an accredited and approved medical assisting training program or equivalent consistent with the requirements of the Medical Board of California;

and possess a certificate of completion as a medical assistant from an accredited and approved medical assisting program with skills documented and maintained via in-service training, continuing education, and testing.

Eligibility for California certification as a medical assistant through completion of an approved MA training program is required.

Evidence of degree(s) or certificate(s) and / or license(s) required at time of hire.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt probationary position scheduled to work 10 months each year. The compensation for the 10 months of work will be paid out over 12 months with the months of December and June observed.

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $ 53,052 annually.

In accordance with the California State University 10 / 12 pay plan, the salary earned for months worked will ultimately be pro-rated to a 10 / 12 salary schedule and paid over 12 months in equal increments, with benefits covered for the entire 12 months.

Under the 10 / 12 schedule, the salary placement will be in the range of $3,505 - 3,684 per month, paid over 12 months with continuous benefits eligibility.

Should the starting date not coincide with a standard 10 / 12 pay plan cycle, the employee will start at an equivalent full time 12-month salary rate with December and June unpaid and be converted to the 10 / 12 rate in July 2025 with benefits covered for the entire 12 months moving forward.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave.

In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
